Top 20 Prospects by PG Staff

Name Position Ht./Wt. B/T City/State
1. Jeff Allison P/OF 6'2/190 R/R Peabody, MA
Top pitcher in Joplin, threw 7 innings and was still as high as 93 in the 7th. Arm works great and he has a good feel for the mound. His breaking ball is devastating at times. His change up is very good and he throws it a lot. In fact, Allison is not afraid to throw any of his pitches in any count.
2. Lastings Milledge OF 6'0/180 R/R Palmetto, FL
We've seen Milledge hit much better than he did in Joplin. However his overall package still ranks above all others. He remains our #1 ranked prospect in the 03 class.
3. Chris Lubanski OF 6'3/180 L/L Schwenksville, PA
Speed and a nice left-handed swing are hard to ignore. Every once in awhile Lubanski will get into one and get scouts excited. His arm continues to improve as does his entire game.
4. Delmon Young OF/P 6'2/205 R/R Camarillo, CA
Delmon is looking more and more like his brother, Dmitri, every year. He has plus-plus arm strength and legitimate big time power potential. We noticed a little more loft to his swing in Joplin.
5. Chad Billingsly P 6'2/195 B/R Defiance, OH
Billingsly has been much better, but he still showed those in Joplin one of the top arms in the class. He's a big game pitcher, who attacks hitters. His breaking ball and off speed stuff works well.
6. Philip Stringer IF 5'9/170 R/R Spring, TX
Stringer has surfaced as the top ranked shortstop in the 03 class. He's improved his 60 times, he's improved his strength and that's all it took to take him to the head of the class.
7. Craig Whitaker P 6'4/180 R/R Lufkin, TX
Whitaker shows a projectable body and an outstanding arm. He was in the low 90s at Joplin and showed pitching ability. He looks like he can throw mid 90s without too much trouble.
8. Ian Stewart 3B/OF 6'2/195 L/R Garden Grove, CA
Stewart is a very good athlete with perhaps the best hitting approach in high school baseball. He does everything well and has a major league look about him. Could be a very high draft pick next June.
9. Patrick Bresnahan P 6'1/195 R/R Sherborn, MA
Bresnahan throws in the low 90s with life and has one of the best sliders in high school baseball. The slider is a mid 80s downer that dives late. He is a good athlete who plays for keeps.
10. Austin Creps P/IF 6'2/170 R/R Spring, TX
Creps was a pleasant surprise for us. He threw consistently in the low 90s and he can pitch. A good athlete on the mound, who projects to get better yet.
11. Sean Rodriguez IF/OF 6'0/175 R/R Miami, FL
Rodriguez has a magical arm and can play any position on the field. His infield actions are outstanding and other than being too early once in awhile he can hit.
12. Tim Gustafson IF/P 6'3/185 R/R Lilburn, GA
Gustafson is an outstanding all-round athlete. A very good hitter who flashes power potential. He also throws 90 from the hill. He really projects nicely.
13. Chuck Tiffany P 6'1/205 L/L Covina, CA
Tiffany is one of the top lefties out there for next year. He throws low 90s with good life. His breaking ball is a keeper. He looks like he has good command of all his pitches.
14. Jarrad Saltalamacchia C 6'4/195 B/R W. Palm Bch, FL
There are many good catching prospects in next years class. None project higher than Saltalamacchia. He shows plus arm and has good feet. He's a switch hitter with power potential.
15. Ian Kennedy P/OF 6'0/180 R/R Huntington Bch, CA
Maybe played better than anyone at Joplin. Lights out on the mound, up to 94. Played well in the field and even looked good at the plate.
16. Michael Rogers P/OF 5'10/160 L/L Del City, OK
Rogers is an outstanding, though not very large athlete. He throws in the 90s and plays the outfield very well. Also looks like an outstanding hitter.
17. Zech Zinicola P/1B 6'1/220 R/R San Bernardino, CA
Zinicola is a power type guy who throws in the 90s from the mound. What was even more interesting was the way he attacks the ball as a hitter.
18. Brian Opdyke C 6'2/190 L/R Tucson, AZ
Opdyke is a good catcher who can flat out mash. One of the top left-hand power bats in the 03 class.
19. Justin Brashear C 6'3/200 L/R Lake Charles, LA
Brashear and Opdyke are similar type catchers. Brashear hit a long line drive out of the park against a Jeff Allison 92 mph fastball.
20. Charles Benoit P 6'2/235 L/L Dallas, TX
Benoit is a very big lefty who can pitch. He showed 89-90 velocity with a good breaking ball.
