College Top 25: Vandy to No. 1

Kendall Rogers

In the case of North Carolina, all good things must come to an end -- at least for now. The Tar Heels began the college baseball season atop the Perfect Game College Top 25, and held that spot until this week after losing a tough road series to Georgia Tech over the weekend.

Though the Tar Heels' reign atop the rankings is done for now, they dropped just one spot to No. 2. Meanwhile, red-hot Vanderbilt vaulted from No. 2 to the nation's top spot after sweeping Kentucky this past weekend to clinch the Southeastern Conference regular season championship.

The Commodores have been incredibly consistent this spring, and have an impressive 45-6 overall record entering their final week of the regular season.

The rest of the top 10 in this week's rankings remains the same, while Oregon moved one spot from No. 12 to No. 11 after an impressive road series sweep over Ohio State. Also worth noting, South Carolina is back in the top 15 after sweeping Georgia over the weekend, moving from No. 16 to No. 14, and Clemson continues to rise, moving from No. 19 to No. 16 after having a rather interesting 7-0 week.

Elsewhere in the rankings, Virginia Tech, South Alabama and New Mexico entered the top 20 after productive performances, while four teams dropped out of the latest rankings, including Rice, Mercer, South Florida and Stanford.

This week's new entrants include Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, Pittsburgh and Georgia Tech. The Rebels captured a huge rivalry series win over Mississippi State, the Cowboys won a huge Bedlam series over rival Oklahoma and Pittsburgh hit the 40-win mark after yet another impressive week. The Yellow Jackets also made a statement with a very nice home series win over previously top-ranked North Carolina.

The Perfect Game College Top 25 is released each Monday morning during the college baseball season.
