OMAHA, Neb. -- It has been a special college baseball season in more ways than one.
Whether highlighted by the inclusions of Stony Brook and Kent State in the College World Series or a program such as Arizona vying for its first national title since the 1980s, it truly has been a season to remember.
Of course, all these moments were made possible by the outstanding play of several players from all walks of life and across the country. Today, many of those players are named 2012 Perfect Game All-Americans.
The PG First Team All-Americans list has a strong State of Florida flavor with Florida and Florida State combining for five players on the team. Catcher Mike Zunino and utility player Brian Johnson lead the way for the Gators, while first baseman Jayce Boyd, outfielder James Ramsey and closer Robert Benincasa are the headliners for the Seminoles.
The PG Second Team is spearheaded by an outstanding quartet of starting pitchers in Stanford's Mark Appel, Missouri State's Nick Petree, Texas A&M's Michael Wacha and Duke's Marcus Stroman. Meanwhile, the Aggies placed also placed outfielder Tyler Naquin on the team.
The PG Third Team is led by the Baylor duo of catcher Josh Ludy and starting pitcher Josh Turley, while Arizona's Robert Refsnyder and Kent State's Jimmy Rider both used impressive play in Omaha as a final push to become an All-American.
The National Pitcher and Player of the Year awards will be released at the conclusion of the CWS. We also will release our annual Coach of the Year award in addition to the PG Freshman All-America teams.
