At absolutely anytime on any given weekend, everything can change for teams around the country. Take Louisville for example.
The Cardinals have had their bouts with inconsistency this season, losing a series to Seton Hall a few weeks ago after beating in-state rival Kentucky in a midweek bout. The Cards, though, changed the tide last week. They defeated UK again in a midweek bout. But this time, they responded from that win with an important Big East series win over Connecticut.
With that type of week, the Cardinals significantly vaulted in the RPI and have a very outside shot of hosting an NCAA Regional, something that seemed near impossible two weeks ago.
You see these same examples with other teams such as Stanford, Arkansas and South Carolina, all clubs that have changed their situations dramatically over the past few weeks.
In addition to analyzing this week's winners and losers from an NCAA postseason bubble and non-bubble standpoint, we also lay out the five things we learned the most from the weekend.
WINNERS
Stanford (28-11) -- Ah yes, remember a few weeks when people started to count the Cardinal out? Well, suddenly this Cardinal club is clicking on all cylinders heading down the final stretch of the regular season. Stanford made a statement two weekends ago by sweeping Arizona State at home. Now, it took another big step forward with a road series win over UCLA to go 3-1 for the week. The Cardinal defeated BYU in midweek action. Mark Marquess's club is playing a good brand of baseball.
Arkansas (31-13) -- The Razorbacks, when they want to, have one of the nation's elite pitching staffs. And we saw that in a big way last week. They almost threw a no-hitter in a 6-1 midweek win over Oral Roberts. The Hogs then hit the road and took two of three from Florida, allowing just one run in the series finale with right-handed starting pitcher DJ Baxendale putting together an impressive start. The Hogs are right back in the NCAA Regional hosting discussion.
