With Tuesday's college baseball action in the books, here's our inside look back at the highlights and lowlights from around the country.

TEAM OF THE DAY:
Florida

Fresh off a huge road series win over South Carolina, the Gators headed to Jacksonville, Fla., to face in-state rival Florida State, a team they defeated earlier this season. The Gators once again tasted success against the Seminoles, capturing an impressive 4-1 triumph. Casey Turgeon and Vickash Ramjit led the way at the plate with two hits each, while Greg Larson, Daniel Gibson, Johnny Magliozzi, Steven Rodriguez and Austin Maddox were impressive on the mound.

PLAYER OF THE DAY: Richie Shaffer, 3b, Clemson

The Tigers have struggled the past week or so, but Shaffer continues to show off a strong bat. Perhaps he got Clemson back on track Tuesday in a 10-5 road triumph over Georgia. Shaffer had an outstanding day at the plate in the win, going 3-for-6 with a pair of doubles, a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. This is a prime reason why Shaffer will be one of the top picks in the upcoming MLB draft.

UPSET OF THE DAY: Texas-Arlington over TCU

The Horned Frogs must find a way to bounce back this weekend after dropping a tough midweek bout to Texas-Arlington. Frogs starting pitcher Jerrick Suiter allowed just a run on four hits in 4 2/3 innings of work. However, the Mavericks got the better pitching in the 4-3 win. Mavericks starting pitcher Zach Thompson allowed just two runs (one earned) in 5 2/3 innings of work, while Chad Nack and Michael Morales each took care of business.

FIVE BEST

Arizona State (16-8): Combined with a weekend series win over California and an impressive 1-0 win over Cal State Fullerton, it's safe to say the Sun Devils are back on track. ASU starting pitcher Zak Miller tossed 4 1/3 shutout innings, while relievers Robert Ravago, Joseph Lopez and Jake Barrett each threw well.

Purdue (17-4): Could the Boilermakers have opened their home schedule in more exciting fashion? Purdue starting pitcher Connor Podkul allowed just one run and didn't allow a hit in six innings of work in a 2-1 extra-inning win over Louisville. Meanwhile, reliever Blake Mascarello allowed just five hits in four shutout innings.

Texas State (15-9): It was important to start the week on a positive note after having a tough weekend against rival Sam Houston State. The Bobcats had a great day, cruising past Oregon 11-3 at home. Bobcats starting pitcher Taylor Black struck out seven and allowed just two runs on five hits in 6 1/3 innings of work. Third baseman Nick Smelser and outfielder Joey Fuda each had productive offensive performances.

Central Florida (20-6): The Knights just might be ready to go on a roll. They picked up a huge home series win over East Carolina this past weekend, and picked up a solid midweek win over Florida Atlantic, 11-3. UCF leadoff hitter Ronnie Richardson had a big night at the plate, going 2-for-6 with two runs, while outfielder Alex Friedrich went 3-for-5 with four RBIs.

Nebraska (18-9): Huskers head coach Darin Erstad is having an impressive first campaign with the program. The Huskers improved their record to 18-9 on Tuesday with a solid 6-3 win over Kansas State. NU starting pitcher Brandon Pierce allowed just two hits in three scoreless innings, while reliever Dylan Vogt also was impressive, allowing just a run (not earned) in 2 1/3 innings of work.

FIVE DISAPPOINTMENTS

Georgia (17-9): The Bulldogs suddenly are in a situation where they need to take care of business this weekend. After losing a road series to Vanderbilt over the weekend, the Bulldogs were unable to bounce back in a 10-5 loss to Clemson. Georgia starting pitcher David Sosebee allowed three runs in just 1 1/3 innings of work, while Earl Daniels and Ross Ripple each struggled out of the pen.

Georgia Tech (15-10): Injuries certainly are the overriding factor in the Yellow Jackets struggling right now, but they need to put things back together ... quick. Tech took a big step back over the weekend with a series loss to Boston College. They took another step back with a 5-3 loss to Georgia Southern. Only athletic outfielder Brandon Thomas finished the contest with more than one hit for the Jackets.

Southeastern Louisiana (18-7): The Lions have had an outstanding campaign so far this spring, but could've used a nice midweek win over Tulane, which has a surprisingly bad RPI right now. The Green Wave defeated the Lions 7-2, as SE Louisiana starting pitcher Joseph Koon allowed six runs on six hits in just 4 1/3 innings of work. Meanwhile, the offense only mustered two runs on six hits.

Pepperdine (16-9): It's important the Waves avoid going through a rut at this point in the season. They were swept at home by Texas A&M over the weekend, and continued their struggles in midweek action, losing 10-5 to UC Santa Barbara. Pepperdine starting pitcher Matt Maurer struggled against the Gauchos, allowing six runs on six hits in just 3 2/3 innings of work.

Houston (10-13): The Cougars appeared to take a step forward two weekends ago with a road series win over Oklahoma State. However, they took a step back last weekend with a series loss to Southern Mississippi. Meanwhile, things got worse in midweek action as they dropped a 14-5 decision to red-hot Baylor. UH starting pitcher Aaron Garza struggled, allowing five runs on four hits in just 3 1/3 innings.
