It’s up to Monmouth to finish the job this season.

The Hawks had a tremendous 2011 campaign – well, for most of the year, at least. They compiled an outstanding 25-7 regular season conference record, winning the NEC title by two games over second-place Sacred Heart.

But such is life for most teams in smaller conferences, the Hawks needed to win the NEC tournament to earn a trip to the NCAA postseason. They didn’t do that, as Sacred Heart earned the league’s automatic bid by winning the conference tournament.

Monmouth finished the season with a fabulous 36-19 overall record.

Last season’s inability to reach the NCAA postseason fuels Monmouth’s fire this spring, and sets the stage for what should be an exciting NEC title run.

Bryant, Sacred Heart and Central Connecticut State will be chasing starting pitcher Pat Light and the Hawks throughout the season.
