PREMIUM: Going inside the postseason projections

The debate about Virginia and South Carolina doesn't end with human rankings. It only escalates when you bring the RPI and postseason landscape into the picture.

Though the Gamecocks earned the top spot in this week's Perfect Game Top 25 rankings, the computers give the edge to the Cavaliers, thus they're once again the top national seed in this week's postseason projections.

The Cavaliers are 37-3 overall and have an RPI of 1. They're 10-3 vs. RPI Top 25, 11-3 vs. RPI Top 50 and 23-3 vs. RPI Top 100. The Gamecocks are 29-7 overall and have an RPI of 3. They're 8-4 vs. RPI Top 25, 11-5 vs. RPI Top 50 and 16-5 vs. RPI Top 100. The Cavaliers have the biggest edge in the vs. RPI Top 100 department.

Other national seeds in the projections include Vanderbilt, Oregon State, Florida, Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Texas A&M.

Vanderbilt has an RPI of 6 and is 8-4 vs. RPI Top 25, 13-5 vs. RPI Top 50 and 16-5 vs. RPI Top 100, Oregon State has an RPI of 9 is 6-2 vs. RPI Top 25, 8-4 vs. RPI Top 50 and 16-4 vs. RPI Top 100, Florida has an RPI of 2 and is 7-6 vs. RPI Top 25, 17-8 vs. RPI Top 50 and 23-9 vs. RPI Top 100, Georgia Tech has an RPI of 7 and is 6-2 vs. RPI Top 25, 9-2 vs. RPI Top 50 and 24-11 vs. RPI Top 100, North Carolina has an RPI of 4 and is 7-1 vs. RPI Top 25, 9-4 vs. RPI Top 50 and 20-6 vs. RPI Top 100 and Texas A&M has an RPI of 14 and is 3-3 vs. RPI Top 25, 11-8 vs. RPI Top 50 and 18-10 vs. RPI Top 100.

Arizona State, Florida State, Southern Miss, Cal State Fullerton and Fresno State also were considered for national seeds.

The other NCAA Regional hosts besides the eight national seeds include Arizona State, Florida State, Cal State Fullerton, Southern Mississippi, Fresno State, Texas, Rice and Arkansas.

The last five teams in the projections are Texas Tech, N.C. State, Memphis, Tulane and Stephen F. Austin.

The first five teams out of the projections are Southeastern Louisiana, LSU, Central Florida, Florida International and Western Kentucky
