2011 High School Season Preview

Opening Day has arrived! With the 2011 season getting underway today in Florida and several southern states to follow in the coming weeks Perfect Game is excited to kick off our coverage of the season. For a list of all the features we will be premiering this season, click here.

Below you will find a capsule of all 47 states that participate in National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) baseball. Be sure to check back tomorrow for a look at some of the top in-season tournaments in the country. Also, we are always looking for nominations for Who's Hot to highlight big performances of players from around the country. First, a few quick hits to get you ready for the season:

New Bat Regulations on the Horizon

Beginning in 2011 the NCAA will no longer allow bats that do not meet Batted Ball Coefficient Restitution (BBCOR) certification standards. The NFHS will implement the same rule nationwide beginning in 2012. The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) has already adopted the new standards for this season.

Additionally, the NFHS has ruled that composite barrel bats are no longer allowed beginning this season. Aluminum barreled bats with composite handles are still legal if they meet Ball Exit Speed Ratio (BESR) standards. Here is a list of NFHS approved composite bats. No other composite bats will be allowed beginning this season.

National Game of the Week

Thursday February 17 Arlington Country Day takes on Montverde Academy in Florida for our first National Game of the Week. Check out the preview, we will feature a new game every week with a preview and recap.
