Week in and week out, those of us in the New York metro market get to see or read about the successes of Mariano Rivera, the famed Yankee closer whose space in Cooperstown is already being planned.

What few realize is that such spectacular results are preceded by unspectacular preparation. Mariano Rivera's conditioning program has been a hot baseball topic these past five years. Recently, Rivera closed in on 1,000 strike outs. He achieved his 40th Save for this season - extending his streak to 7 consecutive years at 40 or more Saves and eclipsing 520 Saves for his career.

Along with his pitching assets, Mariano relies on his training program to establish a competitive edge. Strength and conditioning is critical for all pitchers of all ages. A strong physical foundation is absolutely essential for peak performance results. A key formula in the 3P Program is: Pitching Power = Speed + Strength.

Our special feature today is a video interview with 3P Sports Strength & Conditioning Director Jeff Mangold. Jeff was the former Strength and Conditioning coach with the New York Yankees and enjoyed 3 World Series celebrations with the Yankees while Joe Torre was the manager in the Bronx. These suggestions are based on long term studies with metrics that are scientifically derived - they do not reflect conjecture or opinion. Also important - watch for signs of fatigue. Fatigued pitchers are 37 times more likely to be injured compared to pitchers who are rested and fresh.
