Strength Training with Mariano Rivera - 3P Sports Newsletter

Week in and week out, those of us in the New York metro market get to see or read about the successes of Mariano Rivera, the famed Yankee closer whose space in Cooperstown is already being planned.

What few realize is that such spectacular results are preceded by unspectacular preparation. Mariano Rivera's conditioning program has been a hot baseball topic these past five years. Recently, Rivera closed in on 1,000 strike outs. He achieved his 40th Save for this season - extending his streak to 7 consecutive years at 40 or more Saves and eclipsing 520 Saves for his career.

Along with his pitching assets, Mariano relies on his training program to establish a competitive edge. Strength and conditioning is critical for all pitchers of all ages. A strong physical foundation is absolutely essential for peak performance results. A key formula in the 3P Program is: Pitching Power = Speed + Strength.

Our special feature today is a video interview with 3P Sports Strength & Conditioning Director Jeff Mangold. Jeff was the former Strength and Conditioning coach with the New York Yankees and enjoyed 3 World Series celebrations with the Yankees while Joe Torre was the manager in the Bronx. Who better to tell you about Mariano's training routines than the guy who was there with him in the gym on a regular basis?

In this special 3P Sports segment, Jeff discusses:

1. Mariano Rivera's Athletic Profile
2. Exercise Insights - Mariano's training routines
3. Benefits of Ground Based activities
4. Mariano's approach to every game

This
interview is one you may want to share with everyone who is involved with pitchers. The insights and information are worth studying very closely.

If you missed our last newsletter, be sure you read the full report, a
Position Statement for Youth Baseball Pitchers. We are urging all pitchers and parents to study the pitch count recommendations from ASMI in this report. These suggestions are based on long term studies with metrics that are scientifically derived - they do not reflect conjecture or opinion. Also important - watch for signs of fatigue. Fatigued pitchers are 37 times more likely to be injured compared to pitchers who are rested and fresh.

3P Sports
The same program Scott Kazmir used to make his 2009 comeback is available from 3P Sports today. Pitchers from Little League through college and the pros are improving their pitching mechanics with the 3P Sports program, enabling them to throw at higher velocities, with greater command and with reduced chance for injuries!
