April 1st, 2008

Cedar Rapids, IA. Perfect Game (PG) announced today that it has signed an agreement with ESPN’s RISE Magazine to serve as chair of the 2007-08 Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year selection process. Perfect Game will be responsible for identifying qualified players in each state that sanctions high school baseball to be considered as candidates for Gatorade State Player of the Year honors. The Gatorade Player of the Year award is one of the most prestigious honors in high school athletics. Past recipients represent many of today’s greatest players, including Alex Rodriguez, Gary Sheffield and rising star Clayton Kershaw. PG will be integral in helping to select a baseball player from each state to be honored and will also consult on the Gatorade National Player of the Year selection process.

“An important puzzle piece in our stewardship of the Gatorade Player of the Year Program is accessing the breadth and depth of expertise delivered by Perfect Game USA,” said RISE Magazine’s Chad Konecky, National Director of the Gatorade Player of the Year Program. “As we evaluate the best baseball candidates from across the nation, the input and contributions of Perfect Game will be an indispensable part of our comparative analysis. We’re thrilled to bring another gem of the high school sports talent-evaluation landscape into the fold.”

“We are extremely honored to be involved in the Gatorade Player of the Year program,” said Jerry Ford, president of Perfect Game USA. Our goal is to promote amateur baseball at every level to the best of our ability and this is yet another great fit because Gatorade, ESPN and Rise magazine have become leaders in promoting all of amateur athletics.
