No. 18 UCLA 2, No. 22 Mississippi State 1

This was a rematch of the 2013 College Series Finals and UCLA once again gave the Bulldogs a taste of West Coast baseball. The Bruins, namely Griffin Canning, pitched at a very high level and deployed an opportunistic if not unspectacular offense.

Canning's pitchability is off the charts and he was spot on Friday night. Canning's fastball peppered 90-92 mph for eight innings, and this is somewhat on the high-side for him. He commands that pitch down and away early in the count for strikes and elevates late for a strikeout, as per the UCLA pitching trademark. Having said that, the two separators for Canning are deception and spin.
