2016 Perfect Game Preseason Junior College Rankings

As February comes to an end and every team now is taking the field for game action we can finally start to get an idea of how teams stack up on paper compares to how they actually look on the field.

The top spot in the rankings remains unchanged as the defending National Champion Northwest Florida State College has put up a very impressive 17 wins in their first 20 games while batting .336 as a team. Coach Doug Martin and his Raiders have had some premium wins versus other strong programs like Darton State, Wabash Valley and San Jacinto. With conference games only a couple days away the Raiders will look to continue their fast start against some of the better teams in the state of Florida.

The rest of Top 5 consists of San Jacinto (13-2) who slides into the second spot replacing a slow staring Iowa Western team. Chipola (16-5) makes the jump from sixth to third. Cowley (8-4) moves up one spot to fourth and the red-hot Central Arizona team makes a big jump to the fifth spot thanks to their 18-1 start.

With all of the talent on San Jacinto’s roster, it’s crazy to think they might be better than advertised, but here we are. The Gators jump up one spot to grab the second spot in the rankings after a dominating 13-2 start.

San Jac can hit and feature one of the deepest and most talented rosters in the nation, but their pitching has really set the tone in the early going. As a team, they have already posted four shutouts this season, including two no-hitters and a one-hitter against a very talented offensive team in St. Petersburg College.

Chipola (16-5) sneaks into the Top 5 as they continue to play at a high level against quality teams. The Indians have a full stable of 90 mph arms and rank in the top five nationally in runs scored (fifth), doubles (second) and home runs (fourth). This is a deep and dangerous team and should be in the mix for a National Title run come May.

Iowa Western (7-5) started very slow, but had a solid weekend by taking three of four from a strong Crowder team. Ranked second in the preseason poll, the Reivers have struggled to find their groove early on, but they have a lineup that can rival any other team in the country and it’s possible this past weekend was just what the Reivers needed to get back on track.

Some of the biggest risers in the rankings have come out on fire. As noted, Central Arizona is off to a scorching 18-1 start and makes a big jump from 13th to fifth. San Joaquin Delta has been cruising out in California with a 11-1 record and move up nine spots from 16th to sixth. McLennan (16-2) and LSU-Euncie (18-0) are also making a statement with the quality of early play they’ve shown.

There are three new teams entering the Top 25 with Johnson County (11-0) checking in at 18, Sante Fe (18-3), who has two legit arms at the top of their rotation and are the talk of Florida right now, comes in at 21 and Seminole State (11-3) from Oklahoma taking the 25th spot (they were ranked 27th in the preseason rankings). These three teams replace Palomar (8-8), Howard (5-7) and Western Nevada (10-6) who all fall out the Top 25.

Rankings are based on games through Sunday, Feb. 28
