15u Championship Recap: Day 2

Jordan Posway

After day two of the PG Super25 15u National Championship in Emerson, Georgia, some teams have built strong cases or the championship bracket. However, with the final day of pool play on the horizon, it is still anyone’s game. Here is a quick summary of Friday’s action:

Nick Debrino imposed his will with seven strikeouts in the Adirondack Heat’s 4-2 victory over the Sharks Elite. In addition to pitching a complete game, Debrino contributed on the offensive end with an RBI triple in the third inning.

Marucci Forbes pulled off a spectacular comeback versus the Chattanooga Mustangs. With their backs against the wall, Marucci clawed their way back from a 7-3 deficit with a four-run rally in the bottom of the seventh. The Mustangs would pile on two additional runs in the following inning, but Marucci would rise to the occasion once more. Hunter Tabb’s clutch two-run double tied the score and set the stage for Cristian Poche, who would stun the Mustangs 10-9 with a walk-off single to center field.

Team Alabama topped the Blacksox Elite 9-5 on Field 10. Levi Byrd and Dalton Brown put up identical numbers with three hits and two RBIs apiece as Team Alabama claimed their first win of the tournament.

Ironmen Baseball Club proved to be a tougher test. Braydon Tucker and Noah Thompson frustrated Team Alabama’s batters for seven innings as Ironmen Baseball Club prevailed 11-0.

Allbry Major tossed a no-hitter in the Cincinnati Spikes’ 2-0 victory over the Columbia Angels. The Spikes’ ace tallied ten strikeouts in seven innings. Cincinnati never relinquished the lead after Austin Beeching’s first-inning RBI single.

The Spikes capped off their spectacular day with an 8-5 win over the Sharks Elite. The Spikes never looked back after Cameron Swanger’s three-run bomb in the first inning.

Tri-State Arsenal blanked Slammers Coyote-Horr 3-0 in seven innings. Ellis Dorr pitched a complete game two-hitter en route to being named the winning pitcher.

The SA Angels Blue scored early and often in their 8-1 rout of Rockets Baseball. Hilton Brown kept the Rockets’ offense at bay, allowing eight hits and no earned runs. The Angels pulled away in the second inning with a four-run outburst.

The Angels' offense came to a screeching halt against Zeb Rakestraw and the Georgia Seminoles. Rakestraw surrendered two hits over seven innings as the Seminoles escaped with a 2-1 win.

Brian Sanders tossed a complete game two-hitter in the Bronx Bombers’ 4-0 shutout of the Middle Tennessee Outlaws. Jason Pineda provided his ace some run support with a pair of doubles in the fourth and sixth innings. The Bombers would tie Team NC Demarini at seven runs apiece in their final game of the day.

The Michigan Elite defeated the Northwest Bandits Black 4-1 in seven innings on Field 11. Jafet Cruz set the tone for the Elite with a two-run triple in the first inning.

Darren Donofrio and the Michigan Elite made it two in a row with an 8-3 win over the Tennessee Knights. Donofrio racked up four RBIs on a 3-4 game from the dish, consisting of two singles and a double.

Jack Alexander led the East Cobb Braves to an 11-2 victory over the Columbia Angels with four RBIs. Alexander tripled in the fourth inning and doubled in the sixth. Chase Patrick did his part as he held the Angels scoreless until the seventh inning.

The 643 DP Cougars Montgomery faced back-to-back match-ups against the Middle Tennessee Outlaws and 9 Stars Baseball. The Outlaws got the best of the Cougars 4-0 thanks to a dominant seven-inning performance by Andrew Dorris, but they would redeem themselves against 9 Stars Baseball 5-1. The Cougars never trailed after Ryan Miller’s two-run double in the bottom of the first.
