11u Championship Recap: Day 2

Jordan Posway
Teams continued to battle for supremacy within their respective tournament pools on day two of the PG Super25 11u National Championship. With the final day of pool play on the horizon, it's still anyone’s game. Here's a review of the action from day two:

Vipers Baseball and the BC Phenom combined for four home runs in their five inning contest on Field 8. Lorenzo Carrier and Mason Drummond went yard for the Vipers in their team’s 8-4 victory.

The BC Phenom dropped their first game, but they would not be denied twice. They unloaded on the East Cobb Academy Colt 45’s with nine runs in the second inning. A grand slam by Patrick Walega and a three-run homer by Justin Garcia fueled the Phenom’s offensive outburst. The Colt 45’s had no answer for the BC Phenom, who prevailed 11-1.

The Colt 45’s fared better against the Columbus Sharks. Aidan Moza shut down the Sharks’ offense, surrendering two hits in four innings of work. The Colt 45’s never trailed in their 12-1 whipping of the Columbus Sharks.

The Sharks would get off to a better start in their second game. Columbus owned the lead through four innings, but the East Cobb Astros would stun the Sharks 7-5, courtesy of a four-run rally in the bottom of the fifth inning. Boston Forbes and Llyeton Lackey led the Astros’ four-run resurgence with a couple of clutch base hits.

The Banditos never let off the gas in their 19-6 rout of Chatt Valley. The 11u home run derby champ, McKaylon Bowie, lived up to his billing with seven RBIs and a pair of dingers in the third and fifth innings.

ProScouting Elite MVP jumped out to a sizable six-run lead and coasted to a 10-2 victory over the Midland Warriors. Manuel Souffrain and Corey Conzett led the offensive charge with two doubles and four RBIs.

The Dallas Texans-Lowe blanked Chatt Valley 8-0 in five innings. Jacob White had a banner day from the dish as he was a triple shy of the cycle. His two-run homer in the third inning was the highlight of the Texans’ dominant win.

For the second consecutive day, a game resulted in a draw. Once again, the Dallas Texans were involved. They tied the Mizuno TGBA Aces at six runs apiece after six highly competitive innings. Mizuno’s Parker Brosius recorded his third home run of the tournament with a two-run shot in the first inning.

The East Cobb Braves handily defeated the Midland Warriors 7-4 thanks to timely hits by Isaiah Lopez and company. Lopez finished a perfect 3-3 from the plate with two singles and a double.

The Dallas Tigers-Polk overwhelmed Titans Baseball Blue 10-5 in six innings. The Tigers broke the three-run stalemate with a six-run surge in the bottom of the fourth. Caleb Bergman sparked the Tiger’s rally with an RBI single to center field.
