13u Championship Recap: Day 4

Jordan Posway
Four teams emerged from their quarterfinal bouts on Day 4 of the PG Super25 13u National Championship. The Dynasty 13u will take on Team Select tomorrow morning at 8:00, while Georgia Team Combat will face Roadrunner Baseball at 10:15 in the semi-final round. Here’s a quick summary of today’s action:

The Central Jersey Warriors trounced the Florida Stealth-Red 7-1 on Field 6. Warriors' pitcher, Ian Muni, subdued the Florida Stealth’s offense from the mound for five exceptional innings. Teddy Sharkey, Anthony Corbin, and Dylan Galgano spearheaded a late four-run rally in the sixth inning to pull away for good.

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans continued to struggle against the Giants Baseball Club, surrendering nine runs in the first two innings. Raul Garcia and Dilan Rosario were impressive, contributing four of the Giants’ seven runs in the team’s dynamic second inning. Irvin Escobar allowed zero hits and earned the save as the Giants submerged the Pelicans 9-3. The Pelicans would endure another rough outing against the Texas Express. The Express dropped 11 runs on the Pelicans in five innings. William “Ocho” Ibarra had a team-high three RBIs in the winning effort.

Corey Armstrong manned the hill for the Florida Burn Tampa as his team rolled over the Diamond Jacks 4-1 in seven innings. The Diamond Jacks could not muster up a single hit during Armstrong’s four inning tenure on the mound. Niko Abbas was a constant threat on the base path, stealing home in the fourth inning to extend Florida Burn’s lead to four runs.

The GoWags LumberKings consistently put the ball in play as they powered through the Dallas Mustangs-Sumbler 8-3. The GoWags managed to bring home at least one run in five of the six innings. Luke Wagner was a making plays all over the field as he threw for two hit-less innings, knocked in two runs, and stole home in the fifth inning.

The contest between the Roadrunners and the Indiana Bulldogs was tied after two innings, but the Roadrunners erupted for 11 runs in the final three as they left the Bulldogs in the dust 13-5. Matthew Cassandra manned the hill for the Roadrunners the entire game, while Bradley Rowlinson ignited the offense. Rowlinson would finish the day 3-3 from the plate with two RBIs. Cassandra and Charlie Taylor combined for four more runs as the Roadrunners triumphed in five innings to clinch a semi-final berth.

After a six-run first inning, Team Select cruised past the Akadema Diamond Stars Titans 8-2 in seven innings. Eric Andujar was phenomenal for Team Select, as he commanded the mound for seven innings and allowed zero earned runs. Five players drove home a run in a fantastic team effort by the victors. With the win, Team Select will move on to the semi-final round of the tournament.

Georgia Team Combat stunned the 643 DP Cougars-Sterling 4-3 with a ninth inning walk-off victory due to an error by the Cougars. The ninth inning blunder was one of four errors on the day for the Cougars. Harrison Aulds held the Cougars scoreless in the final three innings while Team Combat rallied from a 3-2 deficit thanks to late game heroics by Ryder Willard and Joshua Downs. Georgia Team Combat will cross paths with the Roadrunners tomorrow in the semi-finals.

Previously undefeated, the East Cobb Astros suffered their first defeat of the tournament against the Dynasty 13u. Masyn Winn pitched the entire game for the Dynasty, limiting the Astros to four runs. Tied 2-2, Winn and Joseph Jorge led the eighth inning rally with a pair of doubles as the Dynasty manufactured a five run advantage. The Astros produced two runs in the bottom of the eighth, but it was not enough to unseat the Dynasty, who leapfrogged into the semi-final round with the 7-4 victory.

The SWFL Starz edged the Tri-State Arsenal 4-3 courtesy of a walk-off single by Alexander Rios in the bottom of the seventh. The game-winning single was the third RBI of the day for Rios. Chase Chatman was a steady presence for the Starz in all seven innings, as he struck out seven and kept the Arsenal at a distance.

Team Florida 2020 started strong, but couldn’t fend off the Richmond Braves, who rallied from a 2-5 deficit to steal the victory in the seventh inning. After scoring two runs leading up to the final inning, the Braves responded with seven unanswered. Joel Tarrh’s two-run double sparked the rally as the Braves topped Team Florida 9-5.

A tremendous eight-run fourth inning by the Legends Prospects buried the SC Bulldogs 12-3. The dynamic pitching duo of Aiden Cann and Cooper McGrath surrendered only one hit to the Bulldogs in six innings. Josh O’Brien, Tristan Latham, and Conor Evers accumulated two RBIs apiece as the Prospects prevailed.

Team Rawlings PBF surged past the FBH Angels in five innings due to an offensive renaissance in the third inning. Early walks plagued the Angels as Team Rawlings strung together eight runs. Three of which came from Jake Dunagan, who recorded a triple with the bases loaded. Brody Szako and Hunter Conner closed out the game to secure the 12-2 victory.
