GoWags Sweep Regionals

Jordan Posway
Capping off an impressive Memorial Day Weekend in Glassboro, New Jersey, the 12u GoWags Patriots and the 13u GoWags Lumberkings returned to Camp Hill, Pennsylvania as champions of their respective PG Super25 Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournaments.

The offense of the GoWags Patriots racked up an outstanding 61 runs throughout the tournament, but their defense proved to be even more phenomenal. A total of nine runs were given up by Patriots’ pitchers all weekend, including just two runs in their 14-2 victory over the 12u Man Up squad in the Mid-Atlantic Regional championship game.

Left hand pitcher, #11 Adam Cramer, gave up only two hits and two earned runs over three innings of work.  His pitching kept the Man Up offense at bay while the Patriots combined for a whopping 13 runs over those same three innings.

Cramer, Ethan Phillips, and Kaden Peifer led the offensive charge by combining for nine RBIs on eight hits. Phillips, #51, hit two home runs in the game, including a three run bomb in the first inning. He ended the day with five RBIs, while Peifer and Cramer added two more RBIs a piece.

The Patriots finished strong as they batted in 29 runs in their final two games. While the previously undefeated Man Up squad scored 62 runs leading up to the 12u championship game, the excellent pitching by the GoWags Patriots proved to be the deciding factor.

Not to be outdone by their 12u counterparts, the 13u GoWags Lumberkings also rode their strong pitching in their championship game. However, the 13u squad held the opposing team scoreless in their 6-0 victory over Tri State Arsenal Gautier.

The 13u GoWags had a sensational lefty of their own in #4 Luke Wagner. He fanned 11 hitters in just over five innings, but his impressive championship performance was not confined to just one side of the ball. Wagner led the team with two RBIs on three hits. Wagner’s teammates also provided some helpful run support, including RBIs by #12 Matthew Warrington and #99 Luke Goodyear.

However, the 13u GoWags squad did not finish the weekend with an unblemished record like their 12u counterparts. They had a nail-biter against the Collegeville Mudcats earlier in the tournament which resulted in a 4-4 tie. The Mudcats played an outstanding game, but the Lumberkings did more offensively during the tournament to warrant their spot in the championship game.

Both teams represented the small town of Camp Hill with a big weekend. The parents, coaches, and players involved with the GoWags baseball organization have a lot to be proud of.
