Cal Ripken League top prospect list

It was another exciting summer in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League, where several teams and prospects made bold statements. For instance, though they didn't win the overall league title, summer league powerhouse Bethesda captured a regular season mark of 31-9.

The Baltimore Redbirds captured the overall league title, going 25-15 during the regular season, and beating Bethesda in the title game.

In terms of individual awards, surging Maryland second baseman Brandon Lowe had a big-time summer after finishing the spring on a high note, while Virginia Tech righthanded pitcher Aaron McGarity showed near impeccable command on the way to an impressive summer.

TOP 10 PROSPECTS

1. Morgan Cooper, rhp, Youse's Orioles (Texas/SO in 2015)
Cooper was somewhat of an under-the-radar high school prospect, but the Longhorns had high hopes for him from the start. It's easy to see why after the freshman year he put together for Texas, tallying outstanding numbers, earning Perfect Game Freshman All-American honors, and showing big-time potential from a stuff standpoint. Cooper only made a few appearances in the CRCBL this summer, but the statement certainly was already made. Cooper, a 6-foot-5, 210-pounder with more room for added strength, flashed elite stuff during his time there. Cooper sits in the low-90s with his fastball, and can easily reach back into the mid-90s when he needs to. Meanwhile, he has a fantastic secondary offering with a nasty curveball, while he continued to refine the changeup this past summer. Cooper may or may not move to the Texas weekend rotation, but his worth will only increase.
