A. We are the largest and most complete amateur baseball scouting service in the world, hosting more than 100 showcases and tournaments each year. We host showcases all over the United States that feature many of the best young players in the country. Our showcases are the perfect platform to see how you stack up with the best players in the country. Our WWBA and BCS tournaments are attended by many of the top travel teams in the country.

A. Perfect Game gives players a quality environment to be seen by college coaches and Major League scouts. Coaches from nearly all of the 309 NCAA Division I programs regularly attends our events, along with coaches from Division II, Division III, NAIA and junior colleges. All 30 Major League teams also send scouts to our events, greatly enhancing each player’s visibility. Our events also give players an opportunity to gauge their skills against their peers and have a positive experience.

A. Our tournaments range in age from 14U to 18U, corresponding to players at the high school level (or about to enter high school). Our showcases are typically geared toward high school players, but college players and free agents are invited to some events.

Members of the Perfect Game staff file detailed scouting reports on the players at all of our events, and those reports are made available to college coaches and pro scouts for their use through a subscription service. We provide biographical material and contact information, as well as baseball analysis. We also offer a video service through BaseballWebTV. We also publish player rankings, team rankings, pre-draft analysis of high school and college players, feature stories on amateurs and pros, interviews, game stories and much more on our web site.

A. We carefully analyze all of the information at our disposal before making the rankings. We rely on personal observation, scouting reports, input from coaches and input from other scouts, trying to make the rankings as accurate as possible. The rankings are regularly adjusted as we receive new information.

A. Definitely not, although a huge percentage (well over 90 percent) of the top players in the country attend multiple Perfect Game showcases and tournaments. While it’s not necessary to attend a Perfect Game Showcase, it has become a big advantage for many players and allows us to make evaluations much more accurate. The more we see a player, the more we know about him, the more everyone knows about him. Our scouts attend many of the top high school events around the country, including the Area Code game, East Coast Professional Showcase, Junior Olympics and Tournament of Stars, to name a few. We also are continually talking to a network of professional scouts and college recruiters to identify the best players around the country. Our goal is to have the most comprehensive and complete rankings possible.

A. The most important things to evaluate on any player are his physical tools. For a position player, that is his hitting ability, fielding ability, speed/range, power potential and arm strength. For a pitcher, it is evaluating his delivery and arm action, along with his selection of pitches (i.e. fastball, curveball, changeup, etc.). A scout is also evaluating how much better he thinks a player is getting with normal growth and hard work (i.e. his projectability) for his body type and athleticism. Attention is definitely paid to a player’s intangibles as much as possible (i.e. hustle, character on and off the field, etc.). One thing that is not especially important is performance, because anything can happen at a short showcase event.

A. The best way to evaluate a young player is through a combination of showcase and game observations. However, Perfect Game has a scout on every field for every inning of every tournament game it runs during the year, taking notes that contribute to a player’s overall evaluation. Every note goes into our extensive database and into our national and state-by-state rankings for each class.

A. The WWBA is PG’s wood bat division. The BCS is PG’s metal bat division.

A. No, PG does not have coaches check-in/meeting prior to tournament. They will receive their coaches packet at their first game.

A. PG does not have any player check in for tournaments.

A. PG doesn’t require any proof of age unless a team protests a game due to an illegal player.

A. Games of all tournaments will begin with 9AM games on the first date listed on a tournament unless otherwise noted.

A. All championship games will start approximately 11:30AM on the last listed date of tournament unless otherwise noted.

A. The WWBA World Championship, which is held annually in Jupiter, FL in late October is a strict invite-only event. It is our oldest and most prestigious event we run. It is limited to 85 teams, with well over 200 wanting in. There are 61 teams who are grandfathered in the event each year because they have been there for so many years. There are 17 PG teams, made up of top individual players not on a participating team. That leaves 7 spots for Qualifier winners. The only way to get a new team into this event that doesn’t win a Qualifier is if a team drops out, which doesn’t happen very often.

A. For the 16u & 17u WWBA, the orders of invitations go as follows:
1. Teams that want to return to the 17u WWBA that participated in 2011.
2. Teams that finished well in the 2011 16u WWBA.
3. New teams that have requested invitations online.
