2016 Top Prospects

Luke Bandy  SS - 2016 - Bentonville, AR
Dallas Baptist

Bandy’s athletic body and quick twitch athleticism were on display throughout the weekend. His 6.53 60-yard dash was the fastest of the showcase, and he’s very impressive in the field with smooth actions and a firm, accurate arm (87 mph across the diamond). At the plate he owns a very quiet swing with good bat speed, and he has a very high ceiling.

Alec Creel  RHP - 2016 - Wake Forest, NC
TCU

Creel really stood out on the mound. The Texas Christian commit touched 91 mph and showed solid command and feel with his fastball, fading upper-70s changeup, and a mid-70s curveball with good depth and tight spin. He also showcased his arm strength in the workouts, registering 93 mph from the outfield and 86 mph during infield drills.

Joseph Blankenship  1B - 2016 - Snellville, GA
Georgia College & State

Blankenship makes the most of his considerable strength in his 6-foot-2, 240 pound frame. The big first baseman has a solid rhythm at the plate and he demonstrated some big pull-side power with two homeruns in batting practice.

Jackson Williams  C - 2016 - Latta, SC

Williams displayed a variety of skills this weekend. The compactly built athlete performed well in individual drills as a catcher, ran a 6.82 60-yd dash, and had a very solid round of batting practice in which he showcased quick hands, strong wrists, and good barrel control. Although he’s not a natural pitcher, he showed some potential off of the mound, sitting in the low 80s and touching 84.

Brandon Bena  OF - 2016 - Omaha, NE
Houston Christian University/Iowa Western CC

Bena is a solidly-built 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds with good present strength. He still projects to get bigger and add even more strength as he continues to mature, which should worry opposing pitchers, as Bena already displayed big raw power in an impressive batting practice round in which he hit two homers.

Colton Garland  1B - 2016 - Green Mountain, NC
Spartanburg Methodist College

Garland was yet another big, physical first baseman that put on a power display in batting practice. He has leveraged, left handed swing and uses his strength well to launch balls to his pull side.

Tate Hagan  OF - 2016 - Tallahassee, FL
Dayton

Hagan had one of the best rounds of batting practice on Saturday, showcasing a smooth, whippy swing and easy bat speed. He has a very projectable, lean 6-foot-2, 175 pound frame and also performed well on the mound, throwing lots of strikes and adeptly mixing a low-80s fastball and sharp curveball.

Jeffrey Gerlica  RHP - 2016 - Port St. Lucie, FL
Air Force

Gerlica has continued to add velocity since the fall. He touched 89 mph and worked comfortably in the 84-87 mph range with very good life. He has a nice, projectable 6-foot-2, 175 pound frame and showed a tight slider with very good potential.

Bobby Morgensen  OF - 2016 - Omaha, NE
Florida Atlantic/Hutchinson CC

Morgensen threw pretty well off of the mound, which was to be expected after he hit 85 mph from the outfield drills earlier in the weekend. However, he stood out more at the plate, where he maintains a short, quick swing with some real thump—driving two balls over the fence in batting practice.

A.J. DiFillipo  3B - 2016 - Peabody, MA
Columbia

DiFillipo is a solid two-way talent that had a very good weekend. At the plate, DiFillipo has an aggressive, yet controlled swing from the left side and good bat speed and strength. On the mound he showcased a curveball with solid depth and a fastball up to 85 mph.

Rasesh Pandya  RHP - 2016 - Greenville, SC
Wofford

Pandya has a loose, lean frame and he threw well on Sunday. He showed an 84-86 mph fastball with very good cutting action and a nice mid-70s curveball that flashed good bite. He threw strikes and displayed a confident approach on the mound.

Connor Wilson  OF - 2016 - Wayne, PA
Dayton

Wilson has a solid array of skills. He has a strong build in his well-proportioned frame and he showed off some speed with a 6.65 60-yard dash. He also hit well, showing quiet hands, good balance, and a nice line drive stroke.

Joseph Mills  C - 2016 - Marietta, GA
Uncommitted

Mills had one of the five best catcher pop times (1.92) and showed solid footwork behind the plate. He also has some strength in his 6-foot-2, 215 frame and the ball carries well to both his pull-side and the opposite field.

Nick O'Brien  RHP - 2016 - Keller, TX
Columbia

O’Brien has a long, lean frame and projects very well. He provides opposing hitters with a difficult task, as there is deception in his delivery and ¾ arm slot. He threw a lot of quality strikes and was able to generate big sink on a fastball that he ran up to 86 mph.

Hans Hodes  OF - 2016 - Kansas City, MO

Hodes is a solid athlete with some projection remaining in his frame. He has a very clean swing and showcased good feel for the barrel with some bat speed and developing power to his pullside.

Aidan Elias  OF - 2016 - Lexington, KY
Western Kentucky

Elias demonstrated a well-rounded skill set this weekend. He had the second-fastest 60-yard dash (6.57), one of the top outfield velocities (89), and had a solid round of batting practice where he displayed simple mechanics and quick hands. He projects well and should continue to improve as he adds strength.

Steve Salisbury  SS - 2016 - Cranston, RI
Eckerd College

Salisbury had a solid all-around showing. The 6 foot, 156 pound infielder projects well and has solid actions and feel for the game in the field. He also flashed a loose swing with the ability to pull the ball with authority, and was aggressive off of the mound, pounding the strike zone with a fastball that touched 86 mph.


2017 Top Prospects

Tyler Kersh  C - 2017 - Brandon, MS
Louisiana Tech

Kersh is strong-bodied and mature for his age. He has solid hitting tools and showed an easy shift into contact with good, strong hands and the ability to get extended and showcase his gap power.

McKinley Strickland  OF - 2017 - Pembroke, NC
North Carolina A&T

Strickland had a very solid round of batting practice and displayed very good bat speed. He has the ability to pull the ball very hard with natural loft in his swing, and he should continue to develop more power.

Stone Kasten  OF - 2017 - Fayetteville, GA
Uncommitted

Kasten has an athletic build and well-proportioned frame. He has a strong backside load and uses it to start his aggressive swing in which he really lets the barrel fly. He has solid bat speed and strength.

Cyrus Grimes  OF - 2017 - Navarre, FL
Keiser University/Tallahassee CC

Grimes displayed big time arm strength, registering 92 mph from the outfield in the workout on Saturday. He also has athletic actions shows a developing feel to hit, and when he’s able use the barrel balls jump off with authority.

Max Pearton  RHP - 2017 - Gainesville, FL
Uncommitted

Pearton is a strongly-built righty that threw well this weekend. He hides the ball well from a compact arm-action and was consistently working with a 81-85 mph fastball. Pearton also has two quality secondary offerings in a fading low-70s changeup and sharp curveball.

Luke Drummond  RHP - 2017 - Temple Terrace, FL
Birmingham-Southern College

Drummond has long limbs and a wiry build with room to grow, which bodes well for his future development. This weekend he showed solid command of his 82-84 mph fastball, slow curveball, and mid-70s slider and presented hitters with a difficult at-bats thanks to some deception in his delivery and a compact arm-action from a ¾ arm slot.

Blaine Smith  MIF - 2017 - Bessemer, AL
Samford

Smith has a young, lean, projectable build and he moves well in the field, displaying solid athleticism and good agility. The switch hitter swung the bat well in batting practice, particularly from the left side where he showcased good bat speed and the ability to get good extension at contact.


2018 Top Prospects

Jose Gutierrez  IF - 2018 - Arlington, TX
Dallas Baptist

Gutierrez has a very mature, solid build for his age and he uses his strength to the best of his ability in a powerful, aggressive swing. The 6-foot-1, 205 pounder has good bat speed in his left handed swing and shows good power potential, especially to his pullside. Gutierrez also flashed some potential on the defensive side of the ball, with some arm strength and solid receiving behind the plate.

Miko Rodriguez  OF - 2018 - Ada, MI
Southern California

Rodriguez has a very strong arm, registering 88 mph from the outfield in position workouts--among the showcase leaders and easily the highest velocity for players in his class. He’s also a solid overall athlete and turned in a 7.06 60-yard dash.


Free Agents Top Prospects

Tom Kim  SS - Free Agents - Singapore, SG SGP

Kim is surprisingly polished for a baseball player coming out of Singapore. He’s a solidly-built 6 foot, 190 pounds and is a good athlete, turning in a 6.95 60-yard dash. He showed some defensive tools at both catcher and third base, with a strong, accurate arm and solid lateral movement. He also has a solid, controlled swing with some carry and strength off of the barrel.
