2018 Recruiting Rankings
| 2018 High School Player Rankings

With the 2017 class signing their National Letters of Intent last week we take a look at the top programs who have already made major strides with their 2018 classes. While the players are talented and some classes are already more than a dozen players deep, it’s certain that the top 10 will inevitably change by next November as other players will continue to give their verbal commitments and new players pop up on the national scene. If you followed along last week with the breakdown of the top 2017 hauls, you’ll notice familiar programs who are once again ranked at the top.

1. Vanderbilt

In my four years of being a full-time staff member at Perfect Game, I can’t readily recall a class that’s been as loaded as this Vanderbilt 2018 class. In what could be one of the strongest draft classes in more than a handful of years, Vanderbilt certainly benefitted from the plethora of talent as evidenced by nabbing four players within the top 10. Atop the list is a three-headed trio of righthanded pitchers in Kumar Rocker (No. 1), Ethan Hankins (No. 5) and Austin Becker (No. 8), all of who will hook up with top-ranked catcher Will Banfield (No. 6) to form an absurd battery. All three of the previously mentioned arms, along with Makenzie Stills, have been upwards of at least 94 mph with advanced secondaries while four additional arms have touched 91 mph already. The athleticism is off the charts with the positional players led by Banfield, who is one of the top receivers to come through the ranks in the last few years thanks to a plus arm and big-time bat speed. And whether it’s Kansas prep Cam McMillan, slick-fielding middle infielder Xavier Edwards, power bats Ryder Green and John Malcom or outfielders Isaiah Thomas and Jared Hart – both of whom show advanced actions on both sides of the ball – Vanderbilt is rolling in talent. The 239 points assembled by the Vanderbilt staff are more than 100 points ahead of second place in the Perfect Game 2018-2019 recruiting class rankings, a true testament to just how good this class is.
