2018 Top Prospects

Jarred Kelenic  OF - 2018 - Waukesha, WI
Louisville

Kelenic has some of the best raw bat speed in the 2018 class, which sometimes makes one forget his centerfield speed and right field arm strength. He is currently ranked 2nd in the PG 2018 class rankings.

Will Banfield  C - 2018 - Lawrenceville, GA
Vanderbilt

Banfield is the top ranked catcher in the 2018 class and did nothing in San Diego to indicate that is going to change in the near future. He has superior right handed power at the plate and is a mature catcher defensively, with big arm strength and a 1.78 pop time.

Kendall Logan Simmons  SS - 2018 - Macon, GA
Georgia Tech

Simmons is one of the tool monsters of the 2018 class, with top of the scale bat speed, the speed and athleticism to play in the middle of the field defensively along with the arm strength to throw up to 93 mph off the mound.

Jordan Groshans  SS - 2018 - Magnolia, TX
Kansas

Groshans had an outstanding event in all regards. He showed better mobility and infield actions than previously seen, swung the bat with authority and plus bat speed and even pitched an inning in the 89-91 mph range.

Adam Kloffenstein  RHP - 2018 - Magnolia, TX
TCU

The 6-5/215 Kloffenstein worked in the 88-91 range with plus command potential but his best pitch was a big and tight 78 mph curveball that was easily the best breaking ball at the event. He's a young pitching prospect with a very high ceiling moving forward.

Hunter Watson  3B - 2018 - Pottsboro, TX
Texas A&M

The 6-3/205 Watson has one of the smoothest and easiest left handed swings you'll ever see. His strength and bat speed was on display on Tuesday with a couple of very well struck doubles.

Austin Becker  RHP - 2018 - Sunbury, OH
Vanderbilt

Becker bears a strong resemblance to Blue Jays All-Star and former PG All-American Aaron Sanchez in his body, arm action and delivery mechanics, which features a short stride out front. He worked in the 89-91 mph zone with a tight curveball in the mid-70's.

Mason Pelio  RHP - 2018 - San Diego, CA
Boston College

Pelio isn't a well known name on the prospect circuit but he will be soon. He threw only one inning at the event as a late add-on but that inning went quickly with a steady stream of low effort 91-93 mph fastballs that over matched hitters.

Noah Naylor  C - 2018 - Mississauga, ON CAN
Texas A&M

Naylor is a different type of athlete than his older brother, former 1st rounder and PG All American Josh Naylor, as he has the tools and athleticism to stay behind the plate defensively. But he does share his brother's big tool, a strong and powerful left handed bat.

Kameron Guangorena  C - 2018 - La Mirada, CA
Cal State Fullerton

Not only is Ojeda a catcher with a big offensive ceiling, he's a left handed hitting catcher as well. He's a quick twitch athlete whose swing is going to adapt very well to better pitching.

Devin Warner  SS - 2018 - Euharlee, GA
GGC/Grayson County College

Warner is a physical specimen with outstanding present strength and athleticism. A switch-hitter, Warner's left handed home run on Tuesday was one of the most impressive contacts of the event.

Ian Bedell  RHP - 2018 - Davenport, IA
Missouri

Iowa's 2018 pitching class looks like it is going to be special and Bedell will be right near the the top of it. The 6-2/185 right hander topped out at 91 mph with big running action and lots of natural angle to the plate.

Boston Mabeus  LHP - 2018 - Henderson, NV
Brigham Young

This scout saw Mabeus last week when he was listed as a primary pitcher and didn't throw well. This week he was a primary outfielder and was outstanding on the mound. Go figure. The Utah native topped out at 90 mph on the mound with an outstanding curveball that was sharp and up to 77 mph.

Bryce Reagan  SS - 2018 - Amherst, NH
Texas

Prospects from New Hampshire are rare but Reagan is one of them. He showed off his left handed bat speed and power with a game home run but also shows the same traits from the right side. Reagan is also a good athlete and his 6-2/190 build projects very well.

Raynel Delgado  SS - 2018 - Miami Lakes, FL
Florida International

Delgado, along with having one of the more impressive physical builds at the event, also is a switch-hitter with high level bat speed from both sides. He looks to have the athleticism to stay in the middle of the infield if he doesn't get too much bigger and slow down.

Emilio Rosas  SS - 2018 - Yorba Linda, CA
Southern California

Rosas is a tall and graceful athlete for a shortstop with a strong combination of arm strength on defense and power on offense. His loose right handed swing really projects well.

Randy Abshier  LHP - 2018 - Chula Vista, CA
Arizona

Abshier is a 6-4/165 LHP and and is an extremely high ceiling talent. His arm is fast and smooth and he worked in the 87-90 mph area. His change up was a very good second pitch and he flashed some good curveballs when he maintained his arm speed.

Michael Burrows  RHP - 2018 - Waterford, CT
University of Connecticut

Burrows was very impressive in his two innings on the mound, working in the 88-90 area with is fastball from a low effort delivery. His curveball was big and well commanded and he even showed a nice change up. The Connecticut native will take a healthy bump up the rankings.

Chandler Champlain  RHP - 2018 - Coto De Caza, CA
Southern California

Champlain is a very polished but still projectable right hander who worked consistently in the upper 80's while pitching to spots with his fastball. His 71-74 mph curveball was sharp and buckled some knees, especially at the higher velocities once he got into a zone with it.

Mateo Gil  SS - 2018 - Keller, TX
TCU

Gil, the son of former MLB player Benji Gil, is a talented two-way player just as his father was at the same age. He threw four quality pitches on the mound, with his fastball touching 89 mph, and showed the ability to be a high level middle infielder as well.

Brady Allen  OF - 2018 - Lakeland, FL
South Carolina

Allen is one of those players who plays with thinly controlled aggression on the field and will not fail due to lack of effort or energy. He's a rare Hits Right/Throws left athlete with big bat speed and very good running speed.

Brandon Dieter  SS - 2018 - Covina, CA
Stanford

One scout/coach at the event compared Dieter to 2016 PG All-American Tyler Ferguson as a talented player without especially loud tools but with an exceptional ability to play the game both offensively and defensively. That comparison seems right on the mark.

Anthony Seigler  C - 2018 - Cartersville, GA
Florida

Seigler is a unique athlete as a switch-hitter at the plate and a switch-pitcher on the mound. That should not overshadow his ability as a two-way prospect. He was strong behind the plate defensively and showed bat speed from both sides. Seigler also threw 88 from the right side and 83 as a lefty.

Makenzie Stills  RHP - 2018 - Fayetteville, GA
Kennesaw State

Stills is only 5-11/180 but he's highly athletic and also played some middle infield in San Diego. He has a loose, no effort arm action that produced a fastball up to 90, with plenty more in there, along with an upper 70's slider.

Owen Meaney  RHP - 2018 - Houston, TX
Texas

Meaney is listed at 6-5/215 but has a young body and really projects physically. He worked steadily in the upper 80's from a tight high 3/4's release point that created lots of angle and threw a curveball that was tight and big at times.

Preston Hartsell  OF - 2018 - Newport Coast, CA
Southern California

Hartsell put on a show in batting practice, blasting four long home runs to right field, and had the same power approach in the games. There is some swing and miss there but there is lots of hard contact as well.

Matt McLain  SS - 2018 - Tustin, CA
UCLA

McLain is a compact bundle of energy at 5-10/165 and has a very aggressive and fast style of play. He has the arm strength to stay at shortstop moving forward and the hand quickness and bat speed to drive the ball hard into the gaps.

Alex Binelas  3B - 2018 - Oak Creek, WI
Louisville

Binelas is a strong 6-2/200 left handed hitting third baseman from Wisconsin who stood out both in batting practice and in games for his hitting ability and power potential.

Jose Gonzalez  1B - 2018 - Spring, TX
Texas State/Navarro College

Gonzalez reminds us of a bit smaller version of 2017 PG All-American Alex Toral as an athlete and most importantly as a hitter. They have very similar hitting mechanics. Gonzalez is going to hit at the next level, he has all the ingredients.

Clayton Nettleton  RHP - 2018 - Davenport, IA
Kirkwood CC

Nettleton up to 90 mph from a long and loose arm action and his fastball has lots of running life that got on right handed hitter's fists. Both his slider and his change up were quality secondary offerings.

Cam McMillan  SS - 2018 - Kansas City, MO
Lipscomb/John A. Logan College

Surprisingly, the 6-4/190 McMillan played on the JV team at Riley Pint's high school in Kansas City this past spring, so the game is still occasionally a little fast for him. Not fast enough to hide his big physical tools, especially his bat speed and power potential.

Shay Schanaman  SS - 2018 - Hastings, NE
Nebraska

Schanaman is listed as a primary shortstop but he looked better as a right handed pitcher at this event. He was steady at 88-89 mph from a very loose and low effort delivery and showed big depth and good command of an upper 70's slider.

Vinny Tosti  OF - 2018 - Santa Rosa, CA
Arizona State/Golden West College

Tosti is a high energy player who runs well, has a strong throwing arm and really performed well in the games. He has gap to gap approach at the plate and is going to put up impressive doubles/triples totals with his combination of strength and motor.

Jarrett Ford  OF - 2018 - Decatur, GA
Young Harris College/St. Johns River CC

Ford is a quick twitch athlete with easy plus speed and has slick defensive actions in the middle of the field. He'll keep getting better as he learns his strengths as a player.

Preston Miller  3B - 2018 - San Clemente, CA
San Diego

Miller stood out in batting practice for his short and strong swing that produced line drive after line drive to the pull side and put an exclamation point that with a line drive, no doubt, home run during a game.

Trae Harmon  1B - 2018 - Somerset, KY
Kentucky

Harmon is listed as a primary pitcher but he is a primary hitter for us. He has a very short and quick swing for a 6-4/225 athlete and the ball exploded off his barrel as hard as anyone at the event. Harmon swung the bat just as well in games as in BP.

Joe Magrisi  RHP - 2018 - San Diego, CA
Cal State Fullerton

Magrisi was an impressive two-way prospect. He pitched in the upper 80's, topping out at 89 mph and filling up the strike zone, but may have looked even better as a right handed hitting third baseman with power in his bat and a strong throwing arm defensively.

JP Murphy  OF - 2018 - Reisterstown, MD
High Point

The 6-3/185 Murphy was one of the more projectable hitters at the event, with a loose and tension free right handed swing that had present bat speed and plenty more to come in the future.

Marcelo Perez  RHP - 2018 - Laredo, TX
TCU

Perez is an undersized but very quick twitch right hander who reminds us of former Cal State Fullerton standout Justin Garza. He has an electric arm that might produce mid-90's velocity as he gets stronger.

Tim Borden  SS - 2018 - Sellersburg, IN
Georgia Tech

Bordon is a well rounded prospect who especially stood out on offense, with a polished game and very good hitting mechanics. The Indiana native is 6-1/170 and is going to keep improving as he gets stronger.

James Bell  C - 2018 - Fresno, CA
Oregon

The 6-1/205 Bell stood out as a right handed hitter and owned the left centerfield alley both in games and in batting practice. His swing is very short for a power hitter and is well geared for his plus strength.

Andrew Moore  RHP - 2018 - Flovilla, GA
Chipola College

Moore is a potential two-way prospect with lots of bat speed and a huge right field arm. But he's a primary right handed pitcher who flashed big life on an upper 80's fastball that's going to keep adding velocity as he matures.

Erick Rivera  OF - 2018 - Salinas, PR
Uncommitted

Rivera looked especially strong in centerfield, showing range to the alleys and also one of the stronger outfield throwing arms while making an outstanding game throw. His left handed swing is loose and easy with plenty of bat speed.

John Malcom  UT - 2018 - West Bloomfield, MI

Malcom has the profile 6-4/200 build, athleticism and smooth left handed swing to project in all areas of his game.

Luke Patzner  RHP - 2018 - Urbandale, IA

Patzner is a strong bodied Iowa right hander who threw in the upper 80's in San Diego but who've we seen in the low 90's much of the summer.

Tyler Ras  RHP - 2018 - Middletown, NJ
Alabama

Ras is a very athletic and projectable 6-4/180 athlete with two-way potential. He was up to 89 mph on his fastball from a loose and extended 3/4's arm action.

Rodriguez is a strong bodied right handed hitter from Michigan with a nice combination of speed, power at the plate and a big time right field throwing arm.

2019 Top Prospects

Bobby Witt Jr  SS - 2019 - Colleyville, TX
Oklahoma

The son of former MLB right hander Bobby Witt, Junior has extremely advanced skills and tools in all aspects of the game. He especially stands out as a right handed hitter, where his combination of maturity and bat speed are remarkable for a player his age.

Jake Holland  C - 2019 - Clermont, FL
Georgia Tech

Holland hopefully won't grow too much more or he's stretching the practical limits of the catching position but he stands out at that position now. Particularly impressive was the one inning when he picked two runners off second base with perfect throws.

Garrett Frechette  OF - 2019 - Orange, CA
San Diego State

If 2018 Hunter Watson (see above) doesn't have the smoothest left handed swing seen at this event, that distinction belongs to Frechette. There will be comparisons to a young Freddie Freeman, another SoCal native, as Frechette continues to develop.

Ryan Dyal  C - 2019 - Senoia, GA
Georgia State

Dyal is relatively new to catching but has taken to the position quickly because of his high level athleticism. He's a quick twtich athlete with speed in his feet and his hands.

Tyler Callihan  3B - 2019 - Neptune Beach, FL
South Carolina

Callihan is much stronger than a normal 2019 and it really shows in his ability as a hitter. Not only does he have excellent bat speed from the left side, he is a confident and aggressive hitter who is consistently squaring up the ball.

Spencer Jones  LHP - 2019 - Encinitas, CA
Vanderbilt

Any time you see a 6-7/185 athlete on the field it catches your attention. Jones did both as a left handed pitcher, where he worked in the mid-80's with an easy delivery and tons of projection, and as a smooth swinging outfielder who hit the ball hard and ran well underway.

Nolan Crisp  RHP - 2019 - Locust Grove, GA
Georgia

Crisp has a middle infielder's build and look but a power pitcher's right arm. He topped out at 90 mph with his fastball and showed very good confidence in his change up, a rarity in a young pitcher.

Easton "Bo" Willis  C - 2019 - Magnolia, TX
Texas Tech

Willis is an impressive athlete with strength and a variety of high end tools. He should be able to stay behind the plate defensively, which will make his strong swing and offensive potential stand out more.

Cooper Benson  LHP - 2019 - San Luis Obispo, CA
Arizona State

Benson is a high energy southpaw who is already in the upper 80's and has the athleticism to keep getting better.

Henry Gargus  1B - 2019 - Yakima, WA
Stanford

Gargus is just a really strong young man. He combines that with a very aggressive swing approach from the left side and the result is lots of very hard contact and big power potential. He's also up to 87 mph off the mound.

Eric Grintz  C - 2019 - Glenmoore, PA
North Carolina

Grintz showed a very mature game for a sophomore to be catcher, standing out on both sides of the ball both with his physical tools but also for his advanced skills. He's going to continue to improve.

Jack Leiter  RHP - 2019 - Summit, NJ
Vanderbilt

Leiter hasn't began to mature physically but he's working in the mid-80's with very good spin and feel for his breaking stuff. If he fills out and gets strong like his father, watch out!

Sam Wibbels  RHP - 2019 - Hastings, NE
Kentucky

Wibbels and 2018 prospect Shay Schanaman (see above) play for the same central Nebraska high school, which is going to make Grand Island HS pretty tough to beat in that state. Wibbels topped out at 89 mph and showed a nasty slider at times when his delivery came together.

Very projectable LHP was up to 87 mph with more to come
