Alex Alvord is a 2016 C/RHP, IF, UT with a 5-11 195 lb. frame from Douglasville, GA who attends Woodward Academy. Medium, athletic frame with broad shoulders and present strength well proportioned throughout body. Ran a 7.20 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, pops tall out of crouch and gains some ground with lower half, quick transfer and release, shows sound arm strength and carry to second base with accuracy that improved. Also pitched, has a slight pause at top of balance point and stays tall on backside, gathers well and drive on line. Works to an extended and low three-quarters arm slot, helps generate solid riding life to fastball through zone, topped out at 83 mph with sink down. Threw strikes, mixed in a sweeping 11-5 curveball at 60 mph. Righthanded hitter, begins with a bent knee stance in the box with a slightly open lower half. Toe tap trigger for timing, very short and direct path and repeats it well. Upper body swing, shows a feel for the barrel with hard contact coming to pull side, can continue to unlock more strength with additional lower half in swing. Very good student.
