Jacob Smith is a 2018 LHP/1B with a 6-7 220 lb. frame from Calera, AL who attends Calera HS. Very tall build with long limbs and a strong lower half, square shoulders. H 3/4's arm slot, stays tall over the rubber well and works downhill, fairly fast paced delivery, will incorporated paced changes in his delivery with intent and maintain his command. Upper 80's fastball, topped out at 90, locates his fastball well to both sides of the plate, maintains his velocity from the stretch, will cut his fastball at times. Mid-70's curveball, tends to slow and cut off his arm on the pitch but has feel for it and throws it for strikes to both left handed and right handed hitters. Did not observe a change up but has a high level of pitchability with both his fastball and curveball and fills up the zone. Good student, verbal commitment to Vanderbilt.
