2015 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
Alec Rickabaugh is a 2016 RHP/OF with a 6-5 180 lb. frame from West Des Moines, IA who attends Waukee HS. XL frame with excellent physical projection. Presently lean with good athleticism and present strength. Near ideal frame for pitching prospect, pitches with shorter arm action to high 3/4 slot, generates plane to plate and uses lower half well. Inconsistent front hip rotation at times. Fastball worked mostly 80-82, topping out at 83 with life to the arm side when located down in the zone. Throws lots of strikes but will miss up in the zone. Showing curveball with 11/5 shape and good depth, though the pitch lacks sharp bite at times. Good feel for changeup in the low 70's with good velocity separation while being thrown with same arm speed and from same keyhole. Hits from open stance, shows good bat speed with hand quickness. Creates slight uppercut swing but mostly a LD plane. Wrists work well with some looseness and strength. Good power at present with more to come as strength is added to frame. Pullside pop mostly at present. Good student.
