LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 National Showcase
Rick Porcello is a 2007 right hand pitcher from Seton Hall Prep, residing in Chester, NJ. He has a plus body, the type you would draw up for a young pitching prospect. He is long, lean, lanky and has a 6'5" 195 lb. frame. Porcello has as much raw ability as anyone in this high school draft class and raked #11 among PG National Top 85 pitchers. On any given day, he could be in the top 3-5 in the nation. Porcello pitches from an over the top slot and has a clean and loose arm stroke. His arm is very fast and works quite easily. His delivery is fluid and effortless, making his ceiling quite high in terms of projecting his future fastball velocity. As it is now, Porcello showed up to 95 mph and sat in the low 90s. When on time in his delivery, he can pour his fastball on a downhill plane and plus tilt in the zone. He generally throws a lot of strikes with his fastball, which for the most part is straight. Angle and velocity are his weapons with the heater. There are times when Porcello flashes at the very least an average 12/6ish curveball. The spin is there but he will have to tighten that spin up, maybe by gripping the pitch a little harder. It is in there. Porcello also possesses a good change-up, a very rare thing for a young power pitcher. He can turn it over and either get ground ball outs or use it to set up his fastball. He has power stuff but pitches to contact. Porcello has committed to play at a D1 program, but has a chance to be a top round pick if he is signable and obviously continues to show well in the spring, as well as staying healthy.
