Zach Maggard is a 5'11" 175 pound 2007 catcher from Pasco High School in Dade City, Florida who was named to the Top Prospect Team. He has an athletic frame with good strength. Zach has a plus arm and good overall quickness which he showed by throwing 79 mph down to second base with a good pop time of 1.95. He is very fundamentally sound behind the plate who has good footwork and blocks balls in the dirt very well. He sets up nice and wide and has a quiet target for pitchers to throw to. Maggard hits with a wide stance and has very good balance throughout his swing. He has good strength and bat speed which along with his short swing allows him to spray line drives to all fields. He has some power now but there is a lot more to come. Zach is a good looking catcher who can swing the bat who will continue to improve. He is also a very good student with a 3.5 gpa.
