Edward Birch is a 2018 1B/RHP with a 6-2 215 lb. frame from Menands, NY who attends The Albany Academy. Large frame with strong, physical present build. Ran 60 yard dash in 7.79 seconds. Sets up to hit from upright, open stance with leg lift trigger and high hands. Dips back shoulder a bit to get on elevated plane, good leverage and bat speed, drives the ball into the air with good strength. Has good power in swing, able to drive ball deep into the air with success, especially to the pull field. Worked out at 1st base, fields cleanly with two hands and shows good footwork on pivot, threw accurately across the diamond up to 72 MPH. Right-handed pitcher as well, high leg lift into delivery, lands closed and creates crossfire, throws from three quarters arm slot, fastball worked 76-79 MPH with some arm side run. Showed slider with 10/4 sweeping shape; also flashed changeup with good fading life. Did a good job throwing strikes. Very good student.
