Rico Reid is a 2007 RHP with a 5'11'', 215 lb. frame from Newnan GA, who attends East Coweta HS. He has a strong athletic body that's fairly mature. Reid throws from a mid 3/4's arm slot with a full windup and delivery. His arm is very fast and he gets good extension through his release. Reid's delivery and release point are inconsistent from pitch to pitch and he tends to fall off to the first base side as well. This significantly affects his command and ability to get hitters out. Reid's fastball was 87-90 mph and it often had explosive life at the plate. It was often up high in the strike zone, too. Reid throws mostly fastballs but did flash some good spin on a 74 curveball at times. A 78 mph change up was his most effective secondary pitch and he could throw it more if he wanted to. We've seen Reid at 92 in the past but we've never seen him with any consistency. He has a great arm to be developed by the right pitching coach.
