Lucas Ward is a 2016 OF/UT with a 5-10 165 lb. frame from Cottage Grove, OR who attends Cottage Grove HS. Small, athletic frame. At the plate shows a spread slightly crouched, open stance and leg lift trigger. Shows a downhill swing plane that produces line drive/ ground ball contact. Aggresive hitter and looks to attack fastballs early in the count. Tends to be out of zone quickly with bat path. Shows best swings when staying inside baseball while extending through the baseball. Worked out defensively from the outfield showing a short overtop arm action that produced some on line carry with accuracy topping at 80 mph from the outfield. Deliberate actions while working through the baseball and tends to pull momentum to glove side on release. Projectable tools in the outifield with future mechanical refinement. Good student as well.
