Austin Garcia is a 2016 C with a 5-9 170 lb. frame from McKinney, TX who attends Prosper. Medium, athletic frame with broad shoulders and present strength throughout frame. Ran a 7.47 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, lower set behind the plate, receives out front, full arm action with some whip at release. Commands game from behind the plate well, gets on top of throws, 1.96 pop time, stands tall at release, arm strength will continue to develop. Left-handed hitter, starts with an open stance and a high back elbow. Loose hands pre-pitch loading into swing, dips on backside some and looks to elevate at contact. Does a nice job of getting closed in weight shift, full swing, generates bat speed through the zone and shows strength and carry to center field off the barrel, has feel to hit to pull side. Very good student.
