2015 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
Javin Drake is a 2016 RHP/3B with a 6-4 205 lb. frame from Wilton, IA who attends Wilton HS. Excellent size on XL frame, built well, long levers and broad shoulders, projects well even with present build. On the mound, pitches from balanced delivery with good hip rotation, gets to balance point and drives downhill with long arm action to overtop slot. Arm works very well with solid arm speed. Good extension out front. Generates good plane to the plate despite slight spine tilt in delivery. Fastball worked in the high 70's, topping out at 80 with good life to arm side. Shows ability to elevate fastball. Could better utilize lower half in delivery. CB/SL combo to round out arsenal. Slider shows tilt in low 70's, curveball shows 11/5 shape with good depth in high 60's, both offerings show promise but lack command at present. At bat, showcases very good bat speed with good barrel control from a short, quick stroke. Could unlock legitimate power if he extends arms at contact a bit more. Showed strong arm during defensive drills, topping out at 81 MPH on throws. Good carry across the IF with quality footwork in both spots. Very good student.
