2003 National Showcase
We’ve been told that Fisher is perhaps the top rated quarterback in the state of Tennessee. Certainly Montgomery Bell Academy is well known as a football powerhouse. The baseball program isn’t as well known but maybe the initial success that former MBA player Warner Jones has had at Vanderbilt and in the Cape Cod League will help steer his friend Fisher to the baseball ranks. No single tool stands out with Fisher but he may be one of the most well rounded players in the country. At 6-2, 190, Fisher has a strong, well-developed body and has been able to maintain very good agility and speed despite his strength and size. He has an average MLB arm from deep at shortstop but his best defensive skill is his body control. Fisher made an number of very solid plays in Lincoln coming in on the ball at both shortstop and third base, maintaining excellent balance and showing soft hands and a quick, flexible arm. That type of skill and aggressiveness in the field is fun to see. When put over a 60, Fisher is a 7.02 runner, but unless he gets bigger and loses his quickness and flexibility, he should be able to excel at shortstop at the next level. At the plate Fisher showed very similar bat speed and swing fundamentals from both sides of the plate. Where many players at this age obviously favor one side or the other (usually the left side since that’s what they work on more), Fisher hit the ball hard from both sides and showed a consistent approach. His swing doesn’t have much natural loft at present but that should come with time and repetitions. Michael is a very good player, one that will really grow on scouts and college coaches. He's also a good student.
