2007 Rising Juniors National Showcase
David Rivera is a 2009 3B/P with a 6'0'', 195 lb. frame from Upland, CA who attends Claremont HS. He has a strong build that is thick but he does have athleticism. Rivera is a really good all-around young player and was strongly considered for the top prospect list. He has a strong swing that starts with an aggressive set-up. His swing plane is good and he made solid opposite field contact. Rivera is pretty short to the ball and for the most part he has a contact approach, though he does possess power. It could be that he is a young hitter that is not yet in tune with his natural power and that is ok, it will come out in time. Rivera showed off a good arm across the diamond with throws that track well. His hands and feet work well at 3rd base, where he is and will continue to be a really solid defensive player. On the mound he has a short, infielder type arm action that works from a high 3/4 slot. His fastball was 83-85 mph and at times had late cut action. Rivera also showed some breaking ball feel and consistently threw strikes with all pitches. He would make a nice fill in reliever at the college level. The mid-80s should come to him soon. Rivera is a good D1 prospect with the physicality and ability to contribute sooner rather than later as a position player.
