2017 Top Prospects

Christopher Brown  RHP - 2017 - Skokie, IL
State Fair

Brown, an extremely strong and physical right-hander, led the event in fastball velocity by hitting 87 MPH on the gun several times. He mixed in an advanced changeup with heavy fade and a good 12/6-shaped curveball. The arm stroke is clean and he extends well through release.

Ian Taylor  OF - 2017 - Elk Grove Village, IL
State Fair

Taylor showed some of the louder hitting tools of the entire event, with excellent bat speed and strength, making him a legitimate home run threat every time he comes to the plate. He's also a highly athletic 1st base prospect, with clean footwork and smooth hands, to go along with quality arm strength that was clocked up to 82 MPH across the infield.

Will Dvorak  LHP - 2017 - Elmhurst, IL
Uncommitted

Dvorak was very impressive on the mound, showcasing an extremely quick arm that produced fastballs in the 82-85 MPH range and projecting for more velocity, consistently finding the bottom of the zone and flashing some running life. He also showed a sharp, short slider and a very deceptive, firm changeup.

Tyler Wood  SS - 2017 - Deerfield, IL
Uncommitted

Wood had a very good event all around, showing very athletic and easy actions in the infield defensively with consistently accurate throws across the diamond up to 80 MPH. He also hit well, using the whole field with a quick bat and line drive swing plane that produced hard, liner contact to all fields with success.

Jackson Braden  RHP - 2017 - Adairsville, GA
Middle Georgia State University

Braden was close to the top as far as fastball velocity, touching 86 MPH several times and working in the low-mid 80's throughout the outing. He can sink the fastball when down in the zone as well, and showed both a sharp curveball and a fading changeup; all from an athletic delivery with a loose, quick arm.

Clifton Slagel  RHP - 2017 - Fairbury, IL
Tulane/Heartland CC

Slagel's body and overall physicality really project on the mound, as does his arm speed. He presently worked in the 80-84 MPH range with his fastball from a high 3/4 arm slot, generating solid plane to the plate and making it tough to square up. He showed a 12/6 curveball with very good spin and depth; and also worked in a straight changeup.

Nicolas Arrivo  SS - 2017 - Ann Arbor, MI
Eckerd College

Arrivo showed a quick stroke when hitting, willing and able to hit the ball where it's pitched and use the whole field with a line drive swing approach. He also ran well with a 6.77 seconds 60 yard dash, threw well from the IF at 80 MPH and showed quick, athletic, and clean actions there. Also pitched well, up to 79 MPH with good plane and FB movement.

David Chianelli  OF - 2017 - Tinley Park, IL
St. Xavier University

Chianelli showed especially well with his defense, arm, and running tools. He clocked a 6.72 seconds 60 yard dash time, threw 82 MPH from the outfield, and was especially impressive with his actions in the outfield, surrounding the ball smoothly with high level footwork and athleticism.

Dan Cryan  C - 2017 - Orland Park, IL
Uncommitted

Cryan was impressive on the mound for his outing, working in the 82-84 MPH range with his fastball, getting on top of the pitch and driving it downhill with both plane and some life to the arm side. He showed a very quick arm and projectable arm speed overall, and mixed in both an 11/5 curveball with good depth and a deceptive, fading changeup.

Deston Martin  OF - 2017 - Joliet, IL
Uncommitted

The physically projectable Martin showed well in every face; running a 6.86 60 yard dash, throwing 83 MPH from the outfield with loose, athletic defensive actions, and showing a quick, line drive stroke when hitting that resulted in quality spray contact to all fields.

2018 Top Prospects

Alex Bowden  LHP - 2018 - Flushing, MI
Uncommitted

Bowden was very good all around in this event. Offensively, he showed impressive bat speed with a short, direct, strong swing that produces hard contact to all fields. He also threw 84 MPH from the outfield while taking good routes and overall showing well defensively, in addition to pitching well, getting up to 79 MPH with his fastball with a smooth, clean arm action.

Skyler Luna  SS - 2018 - Clarksville, TN
Tennessee

Luna stood out both offensively and defensively in this event. He employs a simple, easy swing when hitting and is successful in driving the ball on a line to all fields, along with some extra base power as well. Defensively he was very smooth in the infield, surrounding the ball and funneling cleanly with quality footwork and hand actions, then showed off a very good arm by throwing 85 MPH across the diamond.

Thaddeus Huber  RHP - 2018 - Kearney, NE
Allen County CC

Huber showed well on the mound throughout his outing, getting downhill and online in his delivery with excellent lower half drive and hip rotation. His fastball reached 83 MPH and sat in the 80-83 MPH with good running life. He also mixed in a good curveball with 11/5 shape and good depth, throwing the pitch both for a strike and as a chase pitch.

William Jackson  OF - 2018 - Glenview, IL
University of St. Thomas

Jackson showed off impressive arm strength in a few different spots, first throwing 85 MPH from the outfield where his athleticism and actions stood out as well; and then topping at 82 MPH on the mound and doing a good job of generating steep plane to the plate when commanding to the bottom of the zone.

Drew Koch  OF - 2018 - Rancho Santa Margarita, CA
Uncommitted

Koch really projects from a physical standpoint, and that projection adds to an already solid array of tools. He threw 83 MPH from the outfield where he projects well as a corner outfielder. He also showed well with the bat, showing a strong, quick swing with good barrel control and leverage at contact, creating good jump off the barrel to all fields.

2019 Top Prospects

Logan King  RHP - 2019 - Sterling Heights, MI
Uncommitted

From a highly projectable, athletic frame, King got up to 79 MPH with his fastball and projects for a good deal more with continued development, in addition to showing a sharp curveball and good feel for his changeup. He also showed well with the bat, combining a quick stroke and good hand-eye coordination to produce hard contact all over the field.

Jalen Greer  SS - 2019 - Chicago, IL
Missouri

Greer really stood out defensively, with clean and athletic actions in the middle infield, showing range to both sides with easy footwork and hand actions as well. He also employs a high-contact approach at the plate, with a quick bat and line drive swing plane, barreling up nearly everything he swung at and projecting very well on both sides of the ball.

2020 Top Prospects

Tyler Nemtuda  LHP - 2020 - Chesterton, IN
Florence-Darlington Technical College

From a highly-projectable frame, Nemtuda was dominant on the mound, as the young left-hander throws from a very tough, very extended 3/4 arm slot, generating swings-and-misses on both his fastball (which reached 78 MPH and projects for more) and a quality curveball with some sweeping shape and sharpness.

Zachary McKenna  C - 2020 - Crown Point, IN
Anderson University

McKenna looked advanced beyond his years as far as receiving and handling pitchers go when he was catching. He also shows clean, mechanically-sound catch-and-throw mechanics when popping down to 2nd base. His swing is geared for power, with a big leg lift and hand pinch, but he makes adjustments well and is able to use the entire field with good raw hittability.
