Monday BP Highlights -- Part 3
12/29/2014
Bo Fricks (2016 2B, Macon, GA) is a very polished right handed hitter who pretty much hit a solid line drive with every swing today. He stays balanced and direct to the ball with no timing issues whatsoever. The pop will come with additional strength.
Lael Lockhart (1B Jr., 2016, Friendswood) has a different kind of polish, the rare ability to have very similar sound mechanics and bat speed from both sides of the plate. It's even more unusual to be a left handed thrower and also be a switch-hitter. Seriously, look at MLB rosters and see how many S/L hitters you can find.
Carlos A Cortes (2016 2B, Oviedo, FL) has as much bat speed and power as any 5-foot-8 teenager as one is likely to see. He really accelerates the bat head into the zone when he's timed up and direct to the ball.
Brandon Madero (2016 SS, Orlando, FL) stood out in fielding drills and ran a 6.6 sixty, so we appreciated his very sound batting practice session even more. He's another 5-foot-8 prospect with quick hands and a very solid approach.
Monday BP Highlights -- Part 2
12/29/2014
Livingston Morris (2016 OF, Woodstock, GA) catches one's eye right away with his extra strong 6-foot-4, 215-pound build. His right handed swing has some length to it but it's very loose with lots of raw bat speed.
Bryan Grant (2017 OF, Acworth, GA) is a year younger than his Texas Orange teammate Morris and won't be mistaken for him at 5-foot-10, 144-pounds. But he's a hitting prospect in his own right, with lots of bat speed from an aggressive right handed approach.
Alex Carballo (2016 OF, Pembroke Pines, FL) has a long and loose left handed swing and showed surprising power and carry to the ball when he drove it to right centerfield.
Tate Pennington (2017 SS, Matthews, NC) is a very projectable 6-foot-2, 170-pound sophomore with a loose right handed swing and the beginnings of some present bat speed that should keep building as he gets stronger.
Jack Khawly (2016 3B, Southwest Ranches, FL) showed a very simple and direct right handed swing that packed lots of bat speed and power. It's a swing that is going to translate very well to higher levels of pitching.
Tate Hagan (2016 LHP, Tallahassee, FL) is a primary pitcher but he will grade out higher from this event as a left handed hitter. He has a very good shift into contact and attacks the ball with both aggression and barrel control.
Tyler Musselwhite (2016 SS, Lumberton, NC) packs lots of strength and bat speed into his 5-foot-10, 155-pound middle infielder's build, especially when he gets his front foot down in time.
Triston Casas (2019 1B, Pembroke Pines, FL) has gained attention for committing to Miami as an 8th grader but he is a very legit left handed hitter and would fit in very well with older high school players for both his swing and his strength. He'll be fun to watch over the next several years.
Cole Jackson (2016 C, Tyrone, GA) is some kind of strong at 6-foot-2, 215-pounds and has looseness in his swing, lots of bat speed and the ability to square up the ball.
Arnaldo Brito (2016 OF, Miami, FL) has a very busy load with a huge hand drop that could cause issues with advanced pitchers but he also has tons of strength and raw bat speed. He was one of only a handful of hitters both days with a pair of BP home runs.

Sunday BP Highlights -- Part 4

Brandon Brookins (2016 C, Palmetto Bay, FL) had a calm and balanced hitting approach from the right side with some present bat speed and lots of projection for more in the future.
Eric Blanc (2016 1B, Temple Terrace, FL) packs plenty of strength in his 6-foot-2, 230-pound build and gets lots of extra leverage from good lower half rotation. His swing is on the long side but when you see a left handed hitter put one out into the RCF bullpen, you know he has big power.
Akil Baddoo (2016 OF, Conyers, GA) has a limited trigger to start his left handed swing but still generates lots of bat speed and drove the ball hard. Get him some shift and earlier hand movement and he could really be driving the ball.
Miles Jones (2016 1B, Fayetteville, GA) was one of many big and very strong hitters on Purple (Team 27) that stood out in BP. He didn't even look big for this team at 6-foot-3, 220-pounds. He has a singular pull and lift approach from the left side but executes it well and puts the ball high in the air with tons of backspin.
Franco Perdomo (2016 3B, Pembroke Pines, FL) has very strong hands and a simple and direct right handed swing. He was one of the more polished right handed hitters of the day and took a very good round.
John Malcom (2018 LHP, West Bloomfield, MI) hasn't thrown yet but the freshman is going to have to be very impressive on the mound to be graded out as a better pitching than hitting prospect. He attacks the ball hard from the left side with very good raw bat speed and power potential.

Lael Lockhart (1B Jr., 2016, Friendswood) came in after Mata and threw the final 2 innings striking out three batters. He sat 81-84, topping out at 85 mph. He showed good projectability on the mound with arm side run on FB, and some good bite on the 72 mph CB.

Cole Ganopulos (2016 LHP, Jonesboro, GA) followed Curry on the mound with 3 strikeouts in his first inning to bring the streak to 12 in a row. Ganopulos finished with 4 strikeouts in 2 innings while topping out at 85.
Sunday BP Highlights -- Part 3
12/28/2014
Max Guzman (2016 3B, Miami, FL) got the applause for his couple of bombs that completely left Jet Blue Stadium over the left field wall but actually his most impressive swing and contact was the ball he put into the right centerfield bullpen, something that right handed hitters just don't do in BP in this stadium. The extra strong junior has top of the scale raw power.
Shane Shifflett (2017 SS, Venice, FL) stands out as an athlete with 6.5 speed and a big arm but he's also a switch-hitter with bat speed from both sides of the plate. His right handed swing was better today, with a better path to the ball and better bat speed.
Hunter Judd (2016 OF, Knoxville, TN) will have to add some strength to his 6-foot-3, 162-pound frame to fulfill his projection but he has a very nice left handed swing with looseness, extension and a well executed shift into contact.
Austin Beck (2017 OF, Clemmons, NC) already has a commitment to North Carolina and his 6.58 speed and 90 mph arm strength attest to his base athletic skills. His right handed swing is a bit on the long side but he has present bat speed with quick hands to start his swing.
Cole Evans (2016 3B, Columbia, MO) looks the part of the power hitter at 6-foot-3, 225-pounds and certainly backed that up with his BP round. He has a simple swing approach that lets him use his strength without much wasted motion and swing variables. He created serious backspin on contact, which led to lots of carry on the balls he squared up.
Kea'von Edwards (2016, OF, Oklahoma City, OK) was at the PG National Underclass West in Arizona last month and showed well, but his swing this session was much better and cleaner, with a short and more direct path to the ball and less emphasis on turning and lifting.
Joseph Mabry (2016 3B, Gaffney, SC) has a strong right handed swing with more strength at contact than you'd expect a 175-pound junior to have. He drove the ball consistently to both gaps.
Christopher Mercedes (2018 OF, Winter Garden, FL) is only a freshman but he's already 6-foot-5, 200-pounds with a long but loose and leveraged right handed swing. He has the potential to have big power when he gets stronger.

Leyton Pinckney (2018 C, Kathleen, GA) had his fastball sitting 81-84mph with his curveball at 67mph and his slider at 75mph. Pinckney pitches from a high 3/4 arm slot with a smooth deceptive delivery. Pinckney's curveball is 11-5 with good bite to it, and nasty late bite on his slider and has arm side run to his fastball.

Sunday BP Highlights -- Part 2
12/28/2014
Alec Trela (2016 SS, Bloomington, IL) might outgrow shortstop with his 6-foot-3, 205-pound build but his bat should play anywhere. He peppered the Green Monster in left field with regularity the entire round with very consistent hard line drive contact.
Ricardo Gonzalez (2016 SS, Boca Raton, FL) has quick hands at the plate and stays balanced and directional in his approach, always a sound formula for hard contact. He took a very solid round and looks like a high average young hitter.
Spencer Taylor (2016 OF, Sorrento, FL) had one of the most consistent and repeatable swings we saw all day. He's short to the ball, hits thru it with some bat speed and pretty much squared up everything.
Zach Gibbs (2017 C, Wentzville, MO) has a particular hitting style that the PG scouting staff has dubbed "The SoCal Glide" because it is common on the West Coast but much less so across the country. Gibbs has that big balanced shift into contact and times it well. He's strong and drove the gaps hard from the right side.
Alexander Stiegler (2016 RHP, Dallas, TX) was one of the best hitting primary pitchers we saw today, with a strong consistent swing that was short and impactful.
Damian Serralta (2016 3B, Miami Lakes, FL) has nice hand quickness from the right side with a good shift into contact. That usually results in bat speed that stands out.
William Wallace (2016 OF, Richmond Hill, GA) has very good present strength and an aggressive pull oriented right handed swing with very good extension and separation out front. His hands take a nice direct path to contact.
Alex Crotty (2016 C, Lake Mary, FL) is a rare switch-hitting catcher and one with a solid swing from both sides of the plate. We liked the right handed version better, as it was short and quick with some pop, but he was pretty good left handed as well.
Bryce Couch (2016 OF, Hamilton, OH) didn't stand out walking up to the plate with a young 5-foot-11, 170-pound build but he showed lots of unexpected strength in his swing. The ball really came off his barrel hard.

Javier Valdes (2016 SS, Miami, FL) uses his lower half very well to generate power and bat speed. The U. Miami commit has lots of lift and uppercut in his swing that can be toned down a bit but there is no mistaking the potential offensively.

Jeffrey Fripp II (2016 1B, Orange Park, FL) is a big young man at 6-foot-2, 240-pounds but his swing is surprisingly loose for his build and he's extremely strong. It was impressive how hard and consistently he squared the ball up.
Jack Layrisson (2016 3B, Ponte Vedra, FL) hits from a very spread left handed stance but does a good job using his lower half in his swing. He hit some rockets to right centerfield, the biggest part of Jet Blue Stadium and took a very solid and consistent round.
Daniel Seres (2016 C, Canton, GA) took one of the three or four most impressive BP rounds of the day, showing big right handed bat speed with explosive hands at the ball. He has quick twitch hands that will serve him well for both power and average, especially when he stays back on the ball.
Kendall Simmons (2018 SS, Macon, GA) is only a freshman but he has lots of potential as a right handed hitter. He has lots of strength and bat speed all ready and is only a more comfortable trigger away from establishing more consistent timing.
