CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The conclusion of this year’s Perfect Game World Wood Bat Association (WWBA) World Championship early last week brought to an end the most ambitious national tournament schedule in Perfect Game’s 20-year history. The 2015 season presented more than 90 tournaments contested from coast-to-coast in age-groups 11u through 18u, and that does not include events on the PG Super25 calendar.
Tens of thousands of players participated in these events, which included Perfect Game National Champions being crowned in each of the WWBA, Baseball Championship Series (BCS) Finals, PG World Series and PG/EvoShield tournaments.
At the premier 17u level, two organizations from opposite sides of the country rose to the top-two spots in the 17u PG Travel Team Rankings thanks to championships, podium (top-four) finishes and playoff berths on some of PG’s biggest stages.
The No. 1-ranked Temecula, Calif.-based California Baseball Academy (CBA) Marucci squad won championships at the 17u PG WWBA National Championship in Emerson, Ga., and at the PG/EvoShield Upperclass National Championship in Goodyear, Ariz.
It also reached the final four at the 17u Perfect Game World Series in Glendale, Ariz., and the second-round of the playoffs at the PG WWBA World Championship in Jupiter, Fla. Additionally, CBA Marucci’s 16u team won titles at the PG/EvoShield Underclass National Championship and the PG California World Series Underclass-Pacific event in Fresno, Calif.
The No. 2 Altamonte Springs, Fla.-based Orlando Scorpions 2016 Prime won the 17u PG World Series and finished second at the PG WWBA Florida Qualifier; the Scorpions 2017 Prime were the runner-up at the PG WWBA Underclass World Championship in Fort Myers, Fla.
