Perfect Game Integrates the Zepp Hitting Test,
the First-Ever Standardized Swing Metrics,
For Scouting and Evaluating Athletes

Perfect Game and Zepp have jointly captured data from more than 8,500 swings since the inception of the Hitting Test at PG showcases

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Perfect Game, the largest elite amateur baseball scouting organization in the world, teams up with Zepp, the leader in sports sensor technology, to deliver advanced swing analytic technology designed to benefit both players and scouts. By combining forces, these two cutting-edge organizations have implemented new technology standards for all participating athletes at every Perfect Game event. The Zepp Hitting Test is an evaluation that places a Zepp sensor on any bat to capture and grade swing data, marking the first-time that hitting metrics will be standardized and used by professional and college scouts to evaluate a player’s skill and rank them against their peers for draft and scholarship decisions. Zepp Hitting Test metrics will be included in all player profiles on PerfectGame.org

At the time of this release, Perfect Game and Zepp will have jointly captured more than 8,500 swings and accompanying Zepp data from about 1,500 individual participating athletes. The metrics include bat speed at impact, max hand speed, and time to impact. Coaches and scouts can glean interesting data regarding player performance. For example, at the Perfect Game All American Classic last month, Zepp data concluded that the average bat speed for participants was 87 mph, while the average hand speed was 30 mph.

Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim is a former Perfect Game participant and a current Zepp pro, who says, “Using technology and data during batting practice helps me get the best results.”

We’re seeing technology proliferate among the baseball community as a tool for improvement, and we recognized that we can take the lead on using that technology and subsequent data to empower our athletes, and provide a new benchmark for our scouts and coaches,” says Brad Clement, Vice President of Business Development for Perfect Game.

The Zepp Hitting Test is simple. First, the Zepp sensor is placed on the end of the bat, then swing data is instantly sent via Bluetooth to player or coach’s Android or iOS device. Each player takes three swings off a tee in a standardized fashion. Hunter Pence demonstrates the Zepp hitting test with step-by-step instruction in this video:

The partnership with Perfect Game is a fantastic opportunity to reach aspiring baseball players, and show them metrics for success at the next level,” says Jason Fass, Executive Chairman of Zepp. “Our top priority is athletic improvement, and our values align with Perfect Game. Zepp is already used in practices with youth teams, college programs, and all the way to the Major Leagues—including Tampa Bay Rays, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, San Diego Padres, and more. This is an exciting next step.”

The Zepp Hitting Test will be used to evaluate players at all future Perfect Game events, and the data will appear in each player profile. This partnership will continue through a multi-year extension.
