2015 Summer Collegiate Top Prospect Index
Alaska Baseball League Top Prospect List (20)

The Alaska Baseball League has a proud tradition and once upon a time was a rival of the prestigious Cape Cod League. Things are not back to that level but the talent is trending up in Alaska.

The Mat-Su Miners, led by accomplished summer skipper Ben Taylor, dominated the regular season with a 31-10 record and they finished seven games ahead of the eventual champion Anchorage Bucs. The Bucs won the third and final game of the three-game championship series in a wild 12 inning affair. The game was scoreless through 11 innings only to have the Bucs score six runs in the top of the 12th and then hold on to win the title by a score of 6-2.

The arms in Alaska stood out, with three of them coming from Super Regional participant Texas A&M. The other highlight on this list was the bevy of projectable lefthanded pitchers.

TOP 10 PROSPECTS

1. Corbin Martin, rhp, Mat-Su (Texas A&M/SO in 2016)
Martin was the consensus pick top prospect in Alaska among scouts and coaches. His easy fastball is a monster, hitting 97 mph this summer, and it was the best pitch in the league. Martin, an outstanding high school quarterback in the state of Texas, was recruited by Texas A&M as a two-way player so both his athleticism and low-mileage arm add to his prospect appeal. Even though Martin was a reliever this summer, his quick arm and simple delivery project to a starter's role. Martin is a future first-round pick if his command and secondaries improve enough to justify pitching on the front end.
