16u Championship Recap:Day 1

The PG Super25 16u National Championship is underway! Twenty five qualified teams gathered Wednesday morning at LakePoint Sporting Community in Emerson, Georgia, to begin pool play. Here’s a quick recap of the events from day one:

Hunter Simon starred in the Indians Baseball Club’s 11-2 blowout of the Columbine Elite. He pitched five exceptional innings and allowed two runs. Simon earned the win and tallied a game-high three RBIs, including a two-run single in the fifth inning.

The Indians Baseball Club would not fare as well against the 643 DP Cougars Sterling. Left-hander Zach Williams was nearly unhittable, allowing a single hit over seven innings. Williams was also a factor on offense with a two-run single in the first inning of the Cougars’ 6-1 victory.

Tadeusz Zmarzly fanned eleven batters in the Charleston Braves’ 3-2 comeback victory over the Scorpions North 2017 Prime. In addition to pitching a complete game, Zmarzly sparked the Braves’ crucial sixth-inning rally from a 2-0 deficit with a double to right field. The Braves finally surpassed the Scorpions thanks to Harrison Pardee’s RBI single.

The SA Angels blanked the East Cobb Braves 11-0 in a short five inning contest. Maddux Solomon struck out six batters over four innings, and earned the win. The Angels never looked back after a third-inning outburst, yielding six runs.

The Midwest Rangers National got off to a quick start, but they would squander the lead after a fourth-inning rally by the ABD Bulldogs. The Bulldogs never relinquished the lead after Zack Sherwood’s RBI single to left field. Edward Kutt retired the side in the seventh inning to secure the 4-2 victory.

Things went from bad to worse for the Rangers as they dropped a second straight game. Marucci Raley pounced on the Rangers with twelve runs in the opening three innings en route to a 12-1 win. Nolan Williams led the offensive charge for Marucci with four RBIs, three of which came courtesy of a bases-clearing double in the second inning.

Luke Hudson was a perfect 3-3 from the plate as the 59ers clobbered Bottom of the Ninth Baseball 12-1. The game was never in doubt after the 59ers’ six-run rally in the second inning.

Bottom of the Ninth Baseball put together an admirable five-run rally late in their following game versus the CV Marlins, but they could not erase their seven-run deficit. Michael Williams was dominant on the in the Marlins’ 7-5 win, tossing nine strikeouts over four innings.

PBA Demarini jumped out to an early lead and coasted to a 9-2 victory over Team Rawlings PBF. Garrett LaBreche and Johnny Buckner combined for three hits and four RBIs in a winning effort. Team Rawlings committed a whopping six errors in the loss.

Errors were not a factor in Team Rawlings’ 13-1 loss to the Tri-State Arsenal, but Kevin Welsh was. Welsh of the Tri-State Arsenal was 3-4 from the plate with three doubles and a pair of RBIs. The Arsenal made quick work of Team Rawlings in a short four inning contest.

The South Troy Dodgers had a rough day on Wednesday as they finished 0-2 on the opening day of pool play. Jerry Burke had a wonderful seven inning outing for the Dodgers, but Bobby Miller of Elite Baseball Training-Chicago received slightly more run support in his team’s 2-1 triumph. Miller notched eight strikeouts in a complete game effort.

It was more of the same in the Dodgers’ second game as Jared Whitman of Rijo Athletics stymied their offense for all seven innings. Whitman allowed two hits and tallied five strikeouts. Ryan Ober’s three-run blast to left field was the difference as the Athletics shutout the Dodgers 3-0.

Georgia Super Qualifiers Claimed
The East Cobb Astros and the Georgia Bombers (Hill) were able to emerge as the champions on Sunday at the 2018 PG Super25 13u and 14u Georgia Super Qualifiers.
