Florida State
Full 2015-16 Recruiting Class
A
school can’t do much better getting top-end talent than Florida
State did, landing not only the No. 1 ranked player in shortstop
Brendan Rodgers (Longwood, Fla.), but also receiving a
commitment from the second ranked player, outfielder Daz Cameron
(McDonough, Ga.). Though the Seminoles will have to wait until after
the June draft to see how things shake out they have plenty of depth
in their 2015-16 class, both with the bats and on the mound.
Righthander
Cole Sands (Tallahassee, Fla.) is the top ranked arm in the
class and has run his fastball as high as 95 mph this past summer
while playing for the Orlando Scorpions and he shows the potential
for three above-average pitches. Joining Cameron as the only player
in the class from outside the Sunshine State, Jarrett Montgomery
(Indianapolis, Ind.) is a physical righthander who like Sands often
runs his fastball into the low-90s and shows a nice feel for his
breaking ball. Their most recent commit, catcher Justin Cohen
(Sarasota, Fla.), has had a strong summer offensively and shows big
power from the right side. Tyler Holton (Tallahassee, Fla.) is
a lefthanded pitcher/outfielder who can make an immediate impact both
on the mound due to his high level of pitchability and with the bat,
showing strength and a nice feel for the barrel form the left side.
First
baseman Tyrone Perry (Avon Park, Fla.) recently put his big
lefthanded power on display in Jupiter at the WWBA World
Championship, connecting for two of the top ten hardest hit balls at
the event, each coming off the bat at 104.5 mph. One was a home run
to right field, the other was a loud double to the left-center field
gap.
