2009 Top Prospects

Chad Christensen  3B - 2009 - Cedar Rapids, IA
Nebraska

Christensen showed his accustomed ability with the bat, squaring up on the ball consistently and showing his power with a long home run. He also ran 6.76, impressive for a strong 6-3, 195 lb athlete.

Joshua DeBoer  RHP - 2009 - Coralville, IA
College of Charleston/DMACC

The 6-4, 210 lb DeBoer wasn’t well known before the showcase but that will change quickly. He sat at 87-89 mph from a sound delivery with a hard 78 mph breaking ball and there’s more in his arm.

Matt Koch  RHP - 2009 - Cherokee, IA
Louisville

Koch wasn’t in mid-season form with his fastball, throwing only 86-88 mph but both his slider and curveball showed excellent spin and bite at times.

Chris Romano  RHP - 2009 - Markham, ON CAN
Muscatine CC

The 6-3, 215 lb Romano has a busy, unconventional delivery but it doesn’t hinder his command and he showed three quality pitches in a 87-89 mph fastball, 79 mph slider and big downer 72 mph curveball.

Matt Dermody  LHP - 2009 - Norwalk, IA
Iowa

Dermody excites the scouts with his very projectable 6-4, 180 lb frame and his loose arm. He sat at 86 mph on his fastball and showed very good feel for a change up, along with a big downer curveball in the low 70’s.

Rick Sandquist  RHP - 2009 - Fort Dodge, IA
Iowa

Sandquist hit 90 mph from a severe cross body delivery and showed nice feel for a change up. He’s a slender and athletic 6-4, 165 lbs and should continue to get better as he adds weight and gets his delivery under control.

Royce Consigli  OF - 2009 - Niagara Falls, NY
Pittsburgh

Consigli’s big tool is his left handed bat and it’s a good one. He’s strong at 6-2, 205 lbs and has a polished and mature approach to go with his bat speed and strength.

Scott Schebler  OF - 2009 - Solon, IA
Wichita State/DMACC

Schebler is very similar to Royce Consigli (above), only a year younger and a bit less physical. He has a strong and very aggressive left handed swing and is going to hit plenty of home runs at the next level.

2010 Top Prospects

Kellen Sweeney  SS - 2010 - Cedar Rapids, IA
Uncommitted

Sweeney is maturing very nicely as a hitter and showing the ability to both use his hands to drive the ball to the middle of the field but also turn on pitches he can lift and pull.

Jon Keller  RHP - 2010 - Cedar Rapids, IA
Nebraska

The 6-5, 200 lb Keller pitched consistently at 90-91 mph and flashed a nice 82 mph change up. His arm works very smoothly and it’s just a matter of time and some delivery adjustments before his stuff takes another step forward.

Spencer Navin  C - 2010 - Des Moines, IA
Vanderbilt

Navin was outstanding on defense, popping a 1.74 and showing very good quickness and receiving ability. He has the strength and raw bat speed to develop as a hitter.

Jonathan Musser  RHP - 2010 - Waukee, IA
Nebraska

Musser is an impressive physical package at 6-5, 205 lbs with a smooth, effortless delivery and arm action. He threw 85-88 mph and his off-speed pitches are still developing but he should be a 90+ thrower in the near future with normal development.

Damek Tomscha  3B - 2010 - Sioux City, IA
Auburn/Iowa Western CC

Tomscha was very impressive at the plate, showing high level bat speed and some power potential. He has good arm strength at shortstop and also threw 87 mph off the mound.

Kolton Emery  RHP - 2010 - Black Hawk, SD
South Dakota State

Emery is a solid all around athlete with tools both on the mound and as a middle infielder. He was especially impressive pitching, with an 87 mph fastball and a good slider with 2-plane tilt.

2011 Top Prospects

Dakota Freese  RHP - 2011 - Cedar Rapids, IA
LSU - Eunice

Freese’s delivery is as similar to Tim Lincecum’s as you are likely to find. He throws five different and distinct pitches with an idea, including an 84-86 mph fastball that projects very well.
