2006 Top Prospects

Mark Sobolewski  MIF - 2006 - Sarasota, FL
Miami

Sobolewski is a very polished high performance player who has one of the best bats in the country. He hits every ball hard it seems and can hit with power. Sobolewski has solid middle infield tools and showed us he could make the spectacular play as well.

Evan Cox  RHP - 2006 - Maumelle, AR
Arkansas

Cox is a top level two-way prospect from Arkansas. Some might like him better as a power hitting third baseman with quick defensive actions. Others will highlight his upper 80s fastball and sharp mid 70s breaking ball.

Ricardo Martinez  RHP - 2006 - Miami, FL
Uncommitted

Martinez is the son of El Presidente, RHP Dennis Martinez, although he doesnt pitch as his dad does. Ricky is a fleet footed outfielder with excellent arm strength and a very projectable bat. High ceiling raw talent.

Kyle Smith  RHP - 2006 - Louisville, KY
Kent State

Smith is what the scouts look for coming off the bus: 66, 190 lbs with good athleticism. He topped out at 88 mph on his fastball and had a sharp, downward breaking 72 mph curveball and both pitches should improve as he gets stronger.

Adam Veres  RHP - 2006 - Palm Beach Gardens, FL
St. Petersburg College

The 6-3, 215 lb Veres is all business on the mound. He likes putting away hitters with a very sharp and hard 75 mph curveball. The hitters cant wait for the breaking ball or Veres high 80s fastball is past them.

John Fernandez  SS - 2006 - Pembroke Pines, FL
Brevard CC

Fernandez is the son of former ML great Tony Fernandez. John is also a switch hitting infielder, maybe not with dads speed and athletic flair on defense but with more pop in his bat and solid tools across the board.

Mark Diapoules  RHP - 2006 - Palm City, FL
South Florida

Diapoules is a 6-3, 190 lb right hander with projection and a very good downward plane to the plate. His fastball touched 88 mph and he had a solid CB/Chg combination in the mid-70s as secondary pitches.

Matthew Ridilla  OF - 2006 - Longwood, FL
North Florida

Ridilla is an outstanding power/speed prospect. He ran the 60 in a blazing 6.66 on a slow track and projects tons of power with the bat. At 6-4, 210 lbs, he looks like a prototypical power hitting corner outfielder.

Eric Erickson  LHP - 2006 - Sarasota, FL
Miami

Ericksons 2005 season at Sarasota HS puts him among the elite prep pitchers in the country. He dominates hitters with a deceptive mid-80s fastball and one of the nastiest curveballs in the country.

Robert Anston  OF - 2006 - Odessa, FL
Boston College

Anston is a previously unrecognized talent who has tools across the board as a left handed hitting outfielder. He ran a blazing 6.60 60 and showed some serious juice in his bat. Anston also was a LHP prospect with an 84 mph fastball and 70 mph hammer. Great college follow!

Stephen Cardullo  3B - 2006 - Coral Springs, FL
Florida State

Cardullo is a present strong third baseman with solid tools across the board. Hes a line drive machine at the plate and looks like he will become a top level defensive third baseman as well.

Robert Aglialoro  RHP - 2006 - Lake Ronkonkoma, NY
Uncommitted

Aglialoro is a very athletic 6-1 right hander who projects well as a sinker/slider pitcher. He throws 86-88 mph right now with excellent sink and run and his mid-70s slurve is sharp and could develop into a nice slider in the future.

Cory Allen  1B - 2006 - Duluth, GA
Evansville

Allen is a huge young man at 6-3, 245 lbs and immensely strong in his hands and forearms. He has easy, easy over the fence power with wood right now. What separates him is his very short, efficient swing for a big power prospect.

Mike Pericht  C - 2006 - Orland Park, IL
Uncommitted

Pericht may be a bit big for a catcher at 6-5, 220 and growing, but he has first rate catchers tools and lots of athleticism. He also has the kind of power potential at the plate that will enable him to switch positions and still be a big contributer.

Mitch Levine  MIF - 2006 - Rockville, MD
George Mason

Levine is a 5-9 switch-hitting middle infielder with good present strength and tools. If he continues to hit with the authority that he showed us, he could be an offensive impact player at a defensive position in the middle of the field.

Christian Lopez  OF - 2006 - Pembroke Pines, FL
Uncommitted

5-10 right handed hitting outfielders sometimes get a knock, but Lopez shouldnt. He runs (6.62) and throws (86 mph) at top prospect level and swings the bat with impressive authority.

Peter Woodworth  C - 2006 - St Petersburg, FL
South Florida

Woodworth has unusual tools for a catcher, for instance, 6.81 speed in the 60. He also has the strong arm, toughness and leadership ability that catchers need to have. He projects power with the bat as he fills out.

Nicholas Pisula  OF - 2006 - Virginia Beach, VA
Uncommitted

Pisula was one of many multi-tooled outfielders at the event that we were pleased to see. He ran 6.74 while throwing 89 from the outfield. Pisula is present strong at 6-1, 185 and swings the bat well.

Tim Cross  OF - 2006 - Walled Lake, MI
Michigan

Cross is a solid prospect from Michigan and a very good athlete. He could be one of the better defensive centerfielders in the class and swings the bat with authority.

2007 Top Prospects

Hunter Ovens  OF - 2007 - Bradenton, FL
Virginia Tech

Ovens physical tools as a right field prospect remain top notch and hes present strong and fast. He seems to have adopted a hitting style for the moment that isnt power oriented and that tool should be the best part of his game.

Austin Chubb  C - 2007 - Lake Mary, FL
Uncommitted

Chubb is a prototypical top level catching prospect, with a present strong body (6-1, 195 lbs), excellent arm strength (79 mph/1.92) and power potential that showed with a showcase game home run.

Michael Meintel  RHP - 2007 - Shadyside, OH
Wright State

Meintel is a jright handed pitcher from Ohio with very good arm strength. (86 mph) He has a very deceptive delivery with his change-up being his second best pitch. He also shows ability as a hitting prospect. He has some present power and is a must follow in the future.

Jeff Schaus  OF - 2007 - Naples, FL
Clemson

Schaus is a 6-2, 190 lb left handed hitter who already throws (86 mph) and runs (6.96) at a high level. If he continues to develop the hitting ability he showed in Fort Myers, he could be a top level prospect in 2007.

Ray DeJesus  SS - 2007 - Ft Myers, FL
Uncommitted

DeJesus is more of a 2006 player age-wise but his tools put him on any prospect list. Hes a switch-hitter with an excellent stroke from the right side and has top level arm strength at shortstop. DeJesus is also a gamer who plays hard and to win.

2008 Top Prospects

Kevin Youst  RHP - 2008 - Plantation, FL
Miami

At 6-2, 170 lbs, Youst is just beginning to grow up physically. His heavy 85 mph fastball is actually his third best present pitch behind his outstanding change up and sharp curveball. Youst knows how to use them, too.

Raiko Alfonso  MIF - 2008 - Key West, FL
Florida International

Alfono has shown very definite improvement in his speed and quickness during the past year and showed it in Fort Myers. His defensive tools are excellent and he continues to develop his switch-hitting ability.

Eric Hosmer  1B - 2008 - Cooper City, FL
Arizona State

Hosmer shows top level prospect potential both as a position player and as a pitcher. He touches 83 mph off the mound with advanced pitchability. Hosmer is a smooth actioned athlete who shows some pop in his bat, too.

2009 Top Prospects

Andrew Ruiz  C - 2009 - Miramar, FL
Uncommitted

Ruiz is the only 2009 on the Sunshine East Top Prospect list and is well deserving. He can run, hit and throw right now and handle the difficulties of catching. Ruiz is a quality athlete who should keep getting better for years with hard work.

Felix Roque  RHP - 2009 - Miami, FL
Uncommitted

Roque is still very young and raw and only threw 82 mph but he has the chance to have power stuff down the road. Hes 6-3, 180 lbs and very, very loose and free.
