2012 Top Prospects

Stryker Trahan  C - 2012 - Scott, LA
Mississippi

Trahan was outstanding in all aspects of the game and it looked like he had firmed up his already impressively strong body. The jury is still out on his overall catching skills but his tools line up with anyone in the country.

Teddy Stankiewicz  RHP - 2012 - Keller, TX
Arkansas

Stankiewicz was up to 92 mph on his fastball and his arm works very well. He'll have to find some more power for his slider, which has the right shape and spin but is only 78-80 mph, to take the next step forward as a prospect.

Mark Gottsacker  OF - 2012 - Dallas, TX
Texas

Gottsacker opened eyes with his hitting ability in Houston, going 7-7 at the plate in games, including a home run and a couple of doubles. His run and throw tools in the outfield are solid.

Matthew Menard  C - 2012 - Bridge City, TX
Baylor

Menard compares naturally to his summer club teammate Stryker Trahan as extra strong catchers with surprising speed and athleticism for their size. Menard is the more polished defensive player at the moment.

Troy Lewis  SS - 2012 - Geismar, LA
Coastal Carolina

Lewis was the power star of the event, hitting 4-5 home runs in batting practice and another in game action. He is very strong for his size and attacks the ball aggressively with bat speed. He also threw 87 mph off the mound.

Cameron Dishon  OF - 2012 - Beaumont, TX
Mississippi

Dishon is a line drive machine at the plate and his 6.53 speed is a constant both in the field and on defense. He's a very sound fundamental player to go with his tools.

Ralph Garza  SS - 2012 - New Braunfels, TX
Oklahoma

Garza is a quality two-way prospect as a third baseman and right handed pitcher. He graded out higher at this event as a pitcher, with a fastball to 88 mph, a very sharp curveball and an advanced idea how to pitch.

Brian Trieglaff  RHP - 2012 - Houston, TX
TCU

Trieglaff has intriguing two-way potential due to his arm strength, which is only one of his many catching tools behind the plate. If his bat doesn't come, he already touches 90 mph off the mound with more potentially there.

Miles Manning  MIF - 2012 - Victoria, TX
Sam Houston State

Manning is a very versatile player; a switch hitter with good speed (6.88), a cannon arm from shortstop (90 mph across the infield) and sound fielding fundamentals in the middle of the field.

Zacarias Hardy  OF - 2012 - Keller, TX
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

Hardy was one of the top defensive players at the event, with excellent outfield arm strength, very good instincts and 6.9 speed. His right handed swing shows raw bat speed and good projection with some mechanical adjustments.

Ryan Rand  OF - 2012 - Houston, TX
Texas A&M

Rand has a slender and very projectable 6-4/180 lb build but unexpectedly his best tool is his speed, where he ran 6.64 in the 60. He has a smooth, easy swing that should keep improving as he adds strength.

Josh Leone  RHP - 2012 - Keithville, LA
Louisiana-Monroe

Leone and fellow RHP Preston Warner (see below) were very similar prospects with strong bodies and steady 86-88 mph fastballs, with Leone having the prospect advantage of a better breaking ball, a tight spinning mid 70's curveball.

Preston Warner  RHP - 2012 - Beaumont, TX
Uncommitted

Warner has that type of body (6-4/205) that you like to see in a young pitcher and a strong arm to go with it. He was very aggressive with a consistent 86-88 mph fastball but will have to improve his curveball at the next level.

Cory Geisler  LHP - 2012 - Spring, TX
Texas State

Geisler didn't show the low 90's velocity that scouts say he had at times during the spring but his mid 70's curveball is a big-time weapon.

Dane Steinhagen  3B - 2012 - Beaumont, TX
Uncommitted

Steinhagen is a athletic player who shows defensive tools at both third base and in the outfield. His best tool, however, is his right handed bat.

Duncan Robinson  RHP - 2012 - Houston, TX
Dartmouth

The 6-5/200 lb Robinson topped out at 87 mph with a loose arm action and a mid 70's curveball that shows plenty of promise.

Billy Arendt  MIF - 2012 - Houston, TX
Princeton

Arendt is a live bodied middle infielder with outstanding overall defensive actions and very soft hands that translate well to the next level.

2013 Top Prospects

Taylor Rich  LHP - 2013 - Lovelady, TX
Uncommitted

Rich has a very young 6-2/160 lb build but already has three quality pitches in a fastball that reaches 87 mph, a tight hard curveball and a deceptive change up. He could be a very, very good prospect in a couple of years.

Jake Rogers  C - 2013 - Canyon, TX
Tulane

Rogers has nice, well rounded tools for a young catcher, with athletic quickness and flexibility behind the plate and lots of present bat speed as a hitter.

Kramer Robertson  MIF - 2013 - McGregor, TX
Louisiana State

Robertson has outstanding arm strength at shortstop and off the mound, where he throws in the upper 80's. He has surprising power in his right handed swing and plays the game aggressively at all times.

Justin Barker  RHP - 2013 - Channelview, TX
Uncommitted

Barker got everyone's attention throwing 91 from the outfield in drills and then showed himself to be a polished and projectable young right hander on the mound, topping out at 86 mph with three solid off speed pitches.

Allan Hooker  OF - 2013 - Houston, TX
Lipscomb

Hooker has a nice, loose 6-0/170 build that will get stronger and 6.8 present speed. His left handed swing is short and quick and the ball comes off the barrel hard.

Andrew Dunlap  DH - 2013 - Houston, TX
Rice

Dunlap is a power/power player despite his 5-10/185 lb build. He has outstanding raw arm strength and an aggressive swing that generates very good bat speed that can drive the ball out of the park.
