Talent-Laden Miami-Dade
Surges To Top of Rankings

With a roster that includes at least 10 players, including four catchers, who should be drafted in June, Florida’s Miami-Dade College has climbed to the top of Perfect Game’s ranking of the nation’s Top 25 Junior College teams.

The Sharks (32-5) began the 2013 season at No. 12, but have made a steady climb through the ranks and finally emerged at No. 1 on the strength of a 10-game winning streak. They are 16-2 in conference play.

Central Arizona (34-9) was ranked No. 1 to begin the 2013 season and still held that ranking two weeks ago in the most recent PG poll of junior-college teams, but slipped to No. 2.

Miami-Dade’s top prospect for the draft is freshman catcher/third baseman Victor Caratini, who has split time at the two positions while leading the Sharks in batting (.400), homers (2) and RBI (40). A Puerto Rico product, Caratini spent the 2012 season at Southern University, but was red-shirted, prompting him to transfer. He is expected to be drafted in the top 3-5 rounds.
