Some pitchers, or players in general for that matter, don’t leave much to the imagination for scouts. In some cases that’s a bad thing, but then there are cases like Barrett Astin where that’s a very good thing. You won’t be surprised when you watch Astin pitch, whether you saw him last spring, last summer, or last week. Astin is the same consistent performer each time he takes the mound. That may not make him a future anchor in a big league rotation, but what it does make him is a safe bet to pitch in the big leagues in some form.
