Grayson County, Central Arizona Overcome
Sluggish Starts to Return to Top of PG Poll

Central Arizona and Grayson County (Texas) began the 2013 season as the top two teams in Perfect Game’s ranking of the nation’s top junior colleges. After stumbling out of the gate, the two schools, who have won five Junior College World Series titles between them, have returned to the top of the rankings—though in reverse order of their pre-season placing.

No. 1 Grayson County (15-5), losers of its first three games of the season to Paris (Texas) JC, has taken over the No. 1 spot by winning 15 of its last 17 games.

No. 2 Central Arizona (19-6), which dropped three of its first four contests in Arizona Community College Athletic Conference play, has also largely righted the ship with nine wins in its last 10 ACCAC games.

South Carolina’s Spartanburg Methodist (15-4), which began the season at No. 4 only to move to the top spot as Grayson County and Central Arizona struggled, has returned to its pre-season position.

Meanwhile, there has been upheaval all through the junior-college ranks this spring, with eight teams entering Perfect Game’s latest Top 25, but the nation’s fastest-rising team is Texas’ Cisco College (22-1), which jumped from 19 to No. 6 after being on the outside looking in at the start of the 2013 season.
