Penn State

Once Penn State hired Rob Cooper it was a just a matter of time before there was going to be positive momentum in the Nittany Lions' baseball program. Well, the 2016 club missed the Big Ten Tournament by just one game and the 2017 roster has 10 sophomores and eight freshmen. Good times are on the horizon.

Juniors Taylor Lehman and Sal Biasi make a formidable front of the rotation. The lefthanded Lehman had a strong summer in Cape Cod while Biasi has been up to 94 mph.

Sophomore hitters Willie Burger and Connor Klemann give the lineup a solid foundation. Burger, a 2014 PG All-American, had a good first half in the Cape while Klemann might be the best position player in the program. Klemann had a monster fall and he is a high-average hitter with pure power.

The freshman class features three exciting up-the-middle players in outfielder Mason Nadeau and infielders Joe Weisenseel and Logan Goodnight. Nadeau is an undersized lefthanded hitter (5-foot-9, 170-pounds) but his elite run tool makes him a scary top-of-the-order player. Nadeau won two state titles in high school and he was one of Penn State's leading hitters this fall.

Goodnight is a toolsy 6-foot-2, 195-pounds and the former West Virginia Player of the Year could possibly stay at shortstop in year one. Weisenseel is arguably the best pure baseball player in the program despite having average tools across the board.

One freshman arm to keep an eye on is Myles Gayman. Gayman, who was originally committed to Virginia, has a projectible frame (6-foot-4, 180-pounds) with the makings of an out-pitch curveball and his fastball sits 90-93 mph.
