Day 2 and 3 notes

14u PG Series Classic Day 2&3 Notes

Even with the weather-shortened days, Days 2 and 3 still had plenty of action to go around.   Starting pitching has been dominant at the 14u PG Series Classic, and the last two days were a prime example of why.  2019 grad and LHP Isaiah Walker from New York threw 3 innings of 1 hit baseball.  The lefty was sitting in the low to mid 70s, and threw mainly his two-seam fastball in an effective outing for his squad.   From team New Jersey, 2020 grad and fellow lefty Bayron Acevedo threw a gem for team New Jersey.  Acevedo needed only 63 pitches to get through 6 innings of shutout baseball.  He also added a hit and an RBI in the win.

Jonathan Ramallo impressed with his consistent velocity around 79-80, while topping out at 81 mph.  The ball jumps out of Ramallo’s hand and carries well through the zone.  That was very evident on the mound, but even more so in the outfield when he posted the top OF velocity of 87 mph during skill testing.

West Florida infielder Zach Thomas has been one of the best shortstops defensively all week.  He has shown some very polished and smooth actions.  It’s easy to see his athleticism too, as he has good range up the middle and is a good base runner.  Thomas has proven this week to be a solid all around player.

Lorenzo Repack from New Jersey displayed a short compact swing on a ball he drove ball down right field line while showing off his speed for and inside the park homerun.  Fellow NJ native Tyler Joseph utilizes a short arm action on the bump but sits 77-81 with his fastball while creating good down angle.

Brett Vice from Gulf Coast filled up the zone with 74-76 mph fastball with some arm side run. He also displayed a quality curveball with tight spin and late break.  Dylan Maccallum continues to impress for team West, hitting 82mph on the gun and racking up 5 strikeouts in 3 innings.
