Perfect Game Junior College Top 25: March 29

As we approach the final month of the season, things are starting to take shape around the country and possibly give us a glimpse of which teams will peak at the right time for a deep postseason run.

Down in Louisiana, LSU-Eunice (38-1) remains top-ranked team. The Bengals lost their first game of the season last Sunday to a very solid Delgado (21-9) team, but Coach Willis had his guys ready for the rubber match the next day and his team responded with a 5-2 win to take two of three from Delgado in that series and get back to their winning ways.

Taking over the second spot in the rankings is the Santa Fe (35-5). This is the first time all season a team not named San Jacinto has held this spot, but the Saints have forced the issue with their play on the field. Trent Johnson and David Lee are arguably the best 1-2 punch in the nation, and with sophomore bats like Cole Parks, Hugo Valdes, Matt Allen and Robbie Hanlon, this team has plenty of ways to win games.

The rest of the top five is made up of familiar names like San Jacinto (29-6), Central Arizona (37-7) and Chipola (34-9). After falling to seventh in the last ranking update, Chipola has gone out and won eleven straight games against some very strong competition and looks poised for a run to Grand Junction.

Connors State (32-4), Heartland (24-5) and Neosho County (35-6) made the most significant gains in this installment of the rankings. All three teams moved up at least five spots from two weeks ago and show no signs of slowing down.

With all of these very good teams refusing to really slip and force their way out of the rankings, it makes it hard for new teams to enter, but we do have three newcomers to the Top 25 this week. Santa Rosa (24-3) has been cruising out in California and takes over the 23rd spot in our poll followed by Southern Nevada (30-9) and Dodge City (30-10).

As we enter the final month of play, Perfect Game will be releasing updated rankings on a weekly basis from here on out, so please check in next week for the next version of the Top 25.

Rankings are based on games through Sunday, April 10

Others considered: Yavapai, Wabash Valley, Canyons, Fort Scott, Chattanooga State.
