Florida Collegiate Summer League Top Prospect List (20)

Players, coaches, and league officials successfully battled the elements of the Florida summer for a 13th straight year.

The Sanford River Rats, who posted the best record of the regular season at 26-13-1, ended the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs’ two-year championship reign in the semifinal series and proceeded to capture the title with a 1-0 victory over the Leesburg Lightning in the final. Sanford’s Alex House twirled a complete game shutout and struck out six.

A number of players turned heads this summer, including top prospect Austin Glorius who pitched well enough to sign a contract with the Boston Red Sox.

TOP 10 PROSPECTS

1. Austin Glorius, rhp, Altamonte Springs (SIGNED/Red Sox as NDFA)
Glorius spent two years at Indian River Community College (Fla.) before appearing in 18 games for Division II Valdosta State this past spring. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Glorius had a solid spring for the Blazers, but after going undrafted this June he really took off in the Florida Collegiate League. Armed with a fastball that sits in the 93-95 mph range, and has touched as high as 97, Glorius struck out 45 batters and allowed just 16 hits and 11 walks in his 37 innings pitched. Glorius also showed solid feel for his mid-80s breaking ball. His breakout spring garnered him plenty of interest from professional clubs, and he eventually signed with the Red Sox as an undrafted free agent near the end of the season. Since signing with Boston, Glorius had been assigned to short-season Lowell and was 2-2 with a 2.92 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 24 2/3 innings.
